Marques Tuiasosopo to be named interim head coach for UW bowl game

The local legend will get at least one game at the helm of his alma matter.

Who was going to be named interim head coach for UW's bowl game (probably the Fight Hunger Bowl)? Scott Woodward's decision came down to two men.

It was between defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox and local legend, quarterbacks coach Marques Tuiasosopo. The nod went to Tui.

Now, we don't know what this means as far as the future of the head coaching position means. From what I have heard and seen on Twitter, Tui is not considered a candidate to be the full-time head coach next season. What this could mean is that Wilcox is not a candidate to be the successor to Steve Sarkisian as the next head coach of the Washington Huskies.

This doesn't mean that Wilcox is going to be somewhere else next season, as USC doesn't want to pay the buyout on Wilcox's contract.

Tui has not been on the sidelines very long. He actually has been a coach on the sidelines for three seasons, with one season as the Washington quarterbacks coach. He has never been as much as an offensive coordinator up until this point in time.

When it comes to Wilcox, he could survive as a defensive coordinator under the top two candidates (via Brock Huard speaking on ESPN Boise) of Doug Nussmeier and Chris Petersen. This doesn't mean he is gone, but it does mean he is likely not going to be the head coach.

What do you guys think of the hire, and the implications?
