Catching up on the recruiting news from the past week.

In the past week, Lorenzo Romar has sent out offers to three different perimeter players, and has also been put back in the hunt for another top-rated recruit (but don't get your hopes up).

Tyler Dorsey out of Bellflower, Calif. is a 2015 guard who has seen his stock drop a little bit recently. His split from Arizona was to be expected. Before his commitment to play for Sean Miller, he held offers from over a dozen different schools, including top programs Duke, Florida and reigning champion UConn. One of those programs was the Washington Huskies.

A four-star or five-star recruit depending on who you ask, Dorsey is a 6'4 combo guard with the ability to distribute the basketball along with excellent speed to get to the rim and also pull up for a jumper. Basically, he has the skill set of a prototypical combo guard, with the size of a small wing instead of a big-ish point guard.

While Dorsey probably won't end up at UW, he is another potential recruit in the Class of 2015 that is actually full, unless somebody transfers, decommits or leaves Washington in some other fashion.

Matisse Thybulle | 2015 SG, Sammamish, Wash.

Thybulle is a Class of 2015 player who held zero D-I offers on the table prior to Romar's offer. He is regarded as one of the better sleeper prospects out west, using a versatile game to affect the game in multiple ways. His shooting could use some work, but as a long (6'7) wing with the ability to distribute the ball and get to the rim, he has a lot going for him.

Now, as with Dorsey, there are no spots currently available for another Class of 2015 recruit. I don't know what sort of Romar Math would have to take place, but I would take a guess it rhymes with barracks (that's the best I could do, I'm sorry).

There are two other offers that happened in the past week. Zach Collins out of Las Vegas, Nev. picked up and offer from the Huskies. Collins is a 6'10 PF/C who holds offers from Arizona, Oklahoma and quite a few others. He still has time to top seven feet tall. As of right now, he is a rim-level player who still needs to work at getting above the rim more often, but has the ability to be an impact player on a D-I program.

Collins is 2016, as well as JaQuori McLaughlin out of Gig Harbor, Wash. A 6'3 lead guard, McLaughlin was previously committed to Oregon State, but changed his mind after the firing of Craig Robinson.

Dejounte Murray upgrades the Class of 2015 recruiting class from a solid group with David Crisp and Marquese Chriss to a class that is one with the capabilities to put UW back on the map. Murray was a stud for Rainier Beach last season, averaging nearly a triple double.

The fact that Murray tweeted a picture of the new court with his announcement shows that being "flashy" and stylish really does matter when it comes to recruiting. Ahmaad Rorie listed "the gear" when he committed to Oregon, and it seems that this may have made an impact with Murray, or at the very least it was something he liked.

Murray is one of the best in-state prospects, and is actually rated as the best player in-state by ESPN (Crisp is second). There is a resurgence of talent coming through the state, and Murray is the headliner for the first of several solid groups of players, that we will be taking a closer look at as the summer and dead period creep up on us.

Nabbing the 6'5 guard is a very good sign that the program still has the ability to keep the kids home when they have to, after not taking a single in-state prospect in either of the past two seasons. This is important with the aforementioned resurgence of local talent.

Here is a quick scouting report from the lovely Erik Erickson from his article this morning:

After playing limited minutes as a sophomore, Murray emerged as a key piece in Beach's third consecutive state title run in 2014, nearly averaging a triple double. He is a versatile player who can play and guard multiple positions. While he is a great scorer, its his passing and rebounding skills that stood out many times this year, including a 33 point, 30 rebound performance against West Seattle. Playing AAU for Northwest Xpress, Murray averaged 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists in the Nike EYBL.

Murray currently holds offers from UW, WSU, USC, Cal, Colorado, Gonzaga, Oregon, UCLA, UNLV, Boise State, Arizona, Nevada, Seattle U, and Tulsa

That is an impressive offer sheet. Murray had the chance to go to any school in the west he wanted, and chose to go to UW. Romar's still got the ability to go after big fish when he needs to, just not the national guys, though he is currently doing his best to convince top-ten recruit Ivan Rabb to make his way to UW.

Murray's commitment makes it three straight seasons that UW has landed a highly-rated wing (though Murray has the ability to run the point in a pinch). Darin Johnson was followed by Donaven Dorsey and now Murray, who is the highest-regarded of all. This bodes well for a return to a fast-paced offense, with three highly athletic wings (though we won't see Murray for another season) along with a combo guard in Crisp.

This is great news for Dawg fans, we could have a player who can make a Nigel Williams-Goss-like impact when he steps on the court.

The UW made plenty of basketball news in the last week. What is going on in Husky land?

The spring signing period has passed but Lorenzo Romar and the men's basketball team have been making news left and right this week. Here is an update on all that has happened with the team this week.

Desmond Simmons to St. Mary's

After stating in March that he was leaving the team, it was announced yesterday that Desmond Simmons will be taking his talents to Moraga, California, and play his final year of college ball with the St. Mary's Gaels. Simmons was in and out of the starting lineup during his three years on the court as a Husky and was known for his junkyard tenacity and hustle plays. He finished his redshirt junior season as the starting power forward, averaging 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He was rated a four-star prospect by Scout out of Salesian H.S. in California. He will join former Stanford point guard and Bellevue H.S. grad Aaron Bright at St.Mary's next season.

Romar extends offers to class of 2016, 2017 guards

On Tuesday the Huskies became the fifth school to offer class of 2016 point guard Payton Pritchard from West Linn, Oregon. Pritchard is rated a three-star prospect on Scout and holds offers from Wisconsin, Oregon, Oregon State, and Oklahoma. He was honored as the Oregon 6A Player of the Year after winning the 6A State Championship at West Linn H.S. in 2014. The 6 foot 1 point guard is currently playing in the AAU circuit with Team Fast.

According to Left Coast Recruiting's Jason McCleary, the Huskies have extended offers to two in-state prospects for the class of 2016.

6 foot 3 guard Jaylen Nowell is the latest player from Garfield H.S. to receive interest from the UW. Nowell came off the bench for the state champion Bulldogs this season but should see a bigger role next year with Garfield losing three starters.

The Huskies also offered 6 foot 2 guard Trevon Ary-Turner from Issaquah H.S. Ary-Turner started as a freshman for the Eagles, who finished third in the 4A State Tournament in 2014.

Rorie recieves LOI release from Cal.

According to NBC Sports, class of 2014 point guard and Tacoma native Ahmaad Rorie has been granted a release from his LOI from Cal. Rorie finished his senior season at Lincoln H.S. (Tacoma). He is rated a four-star prospect by Scout and a three-star by ESPN. I would say the Huskies are definitely one of the favorites to land Rorie. He is the cousin of 2015 UW commit David Crisp and was offered by Romar early on in his high school career. He began his senior season at Monteverde Academy in Florida.

In case you missed it

Alaska Airlines Arena recieved a make-over, and while many say the Huskies are just copying Oregon, I think the new design looks amazing.

Who else could the Huskies add to the roster for next season? Let's go transfer hunting.

National Signing Day has passed, the NBA draft deadline has come and gone, and besides a few long shots, it looks as if the Washington basketball team's class of 2014 is all in the books. Or is it?

Transferring has become the new culture in college basketball. Players who feel they aren't getting deserved minutes at one school leave for new opportunities, and those who have graduated can finish up their career at a different school.

College basketball's version of free agency, everyone is taking advantage of the transfer phenomenon. Let's take a look at some players the Huskies could go after on the transfer market.

Strongest Possibilities

These are the players who have already been reached out to by Lorenzo Romar or have past connections to the program.

Ryan Anderson- Boston College

2013-14 stats- 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 49% field goals

The 6'7 power forward was a double digit scorer all three years he played for the Eagles. A native of Lakewood, California, Anderson was rated a three-star prospect by Scout and a four-start prospect by ESPN, holding offers from Miami, Northwestern, San Diego State, and Washington State. Romar has been in talks with Anderson since he announced he was leaving Boston College and the UW seems to be a serious contender to land him. Anderson underwent shoulder surgery in April that will have him sidelined four to six months. He will redshirt this year and he expects to be healthy for his senior season wherever it may be.

Stephen Domingo- Georgetown

2013-14 stats- 0.5 points, 0.5 rebounds

Husky fans who follow recruiting will remember Domingo as a prime target from Romar's class of 2012. While he never got the chance to shine with the Hoyas, the 6'6 shooting guard was rated a four star prospect by both Scout and ESPN and is well known for his three point shooting ability. Academics was a big emphasis on Domingo's recruiting and hopefully Romar can drive that point home when making his pitch. I do think Cal or Stanford are the favorites, but don't be surprised to see the Huskies make a strong push for the San Francisco native.

Need Fitters

Here are some players who could fill some of the biggest holes for next season

Justin Martin- Xavier

2013-14 stats- 11.7 points, 5.2 rebounds

With Desmond Simmons leaving the program and the future of Robert Upshaw up in the air, its no secret that the Huskies need to add another big body, and Martin may be the hottest commodity on the transfer market when it comes to <strike>post players </strike> forwards. Last season he was the second-leading scorer and rebounder for Xavier. I would say the UW's chances of landing Martin fall closer to unlikely, but he definitely has big minutes waiting for him if he decides to come to Seattle.

Long Shots

Unlikely, but anything is possible

Nick Faust- Maryland

2013-14 stats- 9.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists

Faust shuffled in and out of the starting lineup during his three years at Maryland, but averaged over 20 minutes per game in every year. The Baltimore, Maryland native has a strong interest in Oregon (surprise), so maybe Romar can catch a visit with him after he travels to Eugene. I think the safe bet at this point would be Oregon.

Cole Huff- Nevada

2013-14 stats- 12.4 points, 5.4 rebounds

The 6 foot 9 power forward won an appeal that would let him transfer to schools closer to his hometown of Altadena, California, but according to his AAU coach, Huff has narrowed down his final choices to Michigan, Creighton, Dayton, and Iowa. Maybe Huff will change his mind and return back to the<strike> Pacific Northwest </strike> West Coast.

Other recruiting news

I think its a safe bet to say Rainier Beach H.S. forward D'Juan Piper will not qualify academically to be a part of the class of 2014 for any school, and will most likely go the JuCo route before playing Division-I ball. The UW extended an offer to Piper in January, and he was reported to be choosing from South Carolina, Minnesota, and the Huskies. Piper is rated a four-star prospect on ESPN.

According to Dawgman.com's Aaron Beach, class of 2014 prospect and Cal commit Ahmaad Rorie has interest in UW after the coaching change for the Golden Bears. Rorie finished the 2014 season at Lincoln H.S. in Tacoma after starting his senior season at Monteverde Academy in Florida. He played his first three years of high school ball at Clover Park H.S. (Lakewood) and Lincoln, and is the cousin of class of 2015 UW commit David Crisp.

On Wednesday the UW basketball team signed JuCo guard Quevyn Winters to the class of 2014. Winters talked with UWDawgPound about his recruiting process, why he picked the UW, and where he will fit in with the Huskies.

On Wednesday , JuCo guard Quevyn Winters (pronounced Kwev-in, like Kevin but with a Q) became the third player to sign with the Huskies and coach Lorenzo Romar for the class of 2014. Winters played at Indian Hills Community College this past season, where he averaged 12.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Indian Hills finished runner up in the NJCAA National Championship.

The Milwaukee, Wis. native played his freshman year at Duquesne, averaging 9.6 points per game. Winters may be Romar's replacement for C.J. Wilcox next season, as he is a talented guard who can score both in the paint and from beyond the 3-point arc.

I had the chance to talk with Winters about his recruiting process, why he decided to choose the UW, and where he will fit in next season.

Quevyn Winters: I would probably say November, early November. I talked to coach (Lorenzo) Romar and coach T.J. (Otzelberger). Coach T.J. was already recruiting me, he's from where I'm from. He was recruiting me when he was at Iowa State, and when he moved on to Washington we just kept building the relationship from there.

EE: What were your first impressions of the coaching staff, specifically coach Romar?

QW: He was real down-to-earth, a real genuine dude. I feel like he cares about me on and off the court. He would always check up on me. He asked about academics and other things. He showed that he really cared about me as a person just as much as a basketball player.

EE: Who were some of the other schools that were recruiting you?

QW: Iowa State, USC, UNLV, Arizona State, Butler, Central Florida, South Florida, Marquette, schools like that.

EE: What made you feel like UW was the right choice for you?

QW: Me and my mom came out and we felt like it was a beautiful city. We liked the style of play. Like I said Coach Romar and coach T.J. were a big part of that. They are just real good, genuine down-to-earth dudes. They are going to tell you straight up, they aren't going to sugar coat it. They are going to let you know what it is. They told me if I came in and worked hard, I was going to have an opportunity to do some good things.

EE: What has coach Romar told you about where you are going to fit into the team next year?

QW: Just coming in, me being a shooter just being able to score the ball. Bringing some leadership. Just doing a little bit of everything, play defense, rebound, you know I'm real versatile so there are a lot of things I can do.

EE: How did your one year at Indian Hills help you as a player?

QW: It helped me grow a lot. Having to take more of a captain role, where at Duquesne I was a freshman and had to take more of a backseat. Here I had to be more of a leader, more of a captain and more of a scorer.

EE: For people who haven't seen you play before, how would you describe your skill set?

QW: I can do a lot of things. I can dribble, I can shoot, I can pass, rebound, play defense, but I think the best thing I can do is shoot the ball. I can do a little bit of everything.

EE: How do you think you can help bring the winning tradition back to UW after three straight years out of the NCAA tournament?

QW: Just coming in and working hard and bringing my leadership, my scoring ability and my defensive ability. I think that can help us a lot.

EE: What kind of goals have you set for yourself personally and for the team?

QW: I don't really have any goals personally, but definitely try to make the NCAA tournament and try to win the Pac-12.

EE: What did you think of the UW campus when you came for your visit?

QW: I thought it was a beautiful campus. At the (UConn) game it was a great atmosphere, even though a lot of the students were going back home it was a nice turnout. Me and my mom we both loved the city, we love Seattle.

EE: Any final thoughts for the Husky fans who are looking forward to seeing you wear the purple and gold next season?

QW: I'm happy and I'm excited to be a Husky.

"We’re excited to add Quevyn to our program," Washington coach Lorenzo Romar said in a statement released by the school. "He’ll bring a multitude of intangibles to Seattle as a kid who has a history of winning. He’s already played Division I basketball and averaged almost 10 points as a freshman at Duquesne before playing in the junior college national championship game for Indian Hills. He’s a very good shooter with a lot of experience and we’re delighted to have him."
