Kalen DeBoer is a great football strategist and motivator; and now Coach of the Year (again).

Football Dots

  • Coach DeBoer is also a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award (a national coach of the year award).
  • Jon Wilner ranks all of the Pac-12 champions ($). He has UW teams at #1 and #3. The #1 team was the 2016 team and the #3 is this year’s team. (Will he re-rank if/when UW goes on to the finals?) He has the 2018 UW team at #11.
  • In his mailbag ($), Wilner answers questions about which teams are set up for success in their new conferences next year, among other questions. Not surprisingly, he likes Utah in the Big12. Nor is it a surprise that he thinks that the Ducks are better equipped than the Huskies (although he says that he wants to see a contract extension for Kalen DeBoer to know that he will be back next year).
  • In his notebook, Mike Vorel writes about Zach Durfee being able to play in the CFP semi-final. He also makes the case for Rome Odunze winning the Biletnikoff Award. He also has some comments from Ryan Grubb about UW’s offensive performance in the (2nd) win over Oregon:

On the o-line I felt everybody was clicking on all cylinders,” he said.

Vorel also mentions that RB Tybo Rogers did not make the trip to Las Vegas. And he has some stats to show how UW’s pass defense has improved since 2022-now ranking 5th in interceptions and passes defended.

  • Michael Penix, Jr. is one of 3 Heisman finalists that is not at the same school that they started at. Only one of the finalists was not among the top 100 recruits in their class-and Penix wasn’t even in the top 500!
  • Pro Football Focus released their All-America team. Two Huskies made their first team and another made their second team.
  • UW released these tributes to UW’s seniors:
  • Texas will be without one of their safeties for the first half of the Sugar Bowl.

Basketball Dots

  • UW Men’s Basketball team got a win last night over Montana State, 85-61. Chris Fetters at 247Sports has his review of the game. The UW Dawg Pound review is here.
  • The Women’s Basketball team also beat Montana State, but in a closer game: 55-50

UW Athletic Dots

  • UW picked up a softball commitment.
