All We Hear Is Purple: Sugar Bowl Preview

Breaking down the key matchups between Washington and Texas

NCAA Football: Alamo Bowl-Texas at Washington Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Hello and welcome to All We Hear Is Purple!

We are less than a week from the Sugar Bowl. It’s the biggest game the Huskies have played since 2016 and the biggest game of Kalen DeBoer’s coaching career. Mark Schafer joins Andrew Berg to break down some of the key matchups that will determine the game.

When the Huskies have the ball, Texas’ outstanding DTs will dictate the play. Will the Dawgs be able to run on them? What will the pass attack look like with pressure coming up the middle? How will UW’s receivers match up with the Texas DBs? The Dawgs match up with old friend Pete Kwiatkowski as the Texas DC. Coach K loves to limit big plays. Will Ryan Grubb take the intermediate plays or will he try to beat Coach K’s defense deep?

On the other side, Quinn Ewers will try to find the soft spots in UW’s secondary. Texas has multiple top-end receiving threats, so it will be up to the UW DBs to play as a unit and provide help where needed to keep them contained. Without Jonathan Brooks, Texas has used a committee approach at RB. Will Sark’s love of the power run pay off or will Tuli and company be able to keep them behind the chains?

Taking all that into consideration, Mark and Andrew give their predictions for the game, as well as a couple of PNW-themed non-football recommendations.

As always, thanks for listening and Go Dawgs.
