OL Paki Finau is a Husky!

Huskies sign a tackle with sky high potential

NCAA Football: Washington at Arizona Zachary BonDurant-USA TODAY Sports

Washington bolstered its offensive line when it received the National Letter of Intent from Paki Finau today. The offensive tackle from the inland part of Southern California is one of the highest-rated recruits in UW’s incoming class at one of the most important positions.

Finau is a four-star recruit in both the 247 ratings and the composite rankings. He stands 6’4” and somewhere between 260-270 pounds. He was an extremely sought-after recruit with 26 scholarship offers from around the country, including Oregon, Auburn, and Florida St. UW beat out finalists Penn St. and Arizona for his commitment after both schools also got official visits. Finau is strong and powerful, but separates himself with excellent balance. His strength in pass protection will make him a good fit for UW’s system.

While Finau does not profile as a player who will get playing time early in his career, the tackle position may be in flux next season. Troy Fautanu is almost certainly to leave to be an early-round draft pick and Roger Rosengarten may join him. Young players like Jalen Klemm and Samuel Peacock may need to quickly find their way into regular playing time. The Huskies also brought in San Diego State transfer Drew Azzopardi to compete at that spot. In the meantime, Finau will put on weight and hopefully take the Roger Rosengarten development path to join the rotation as a redshirt freshman.

Here are Finau’s junior season highlights.
