On Saturday, December 16, 2023, the Washington Huskies Women’s Basketball team hosted St Mary’s and pummeled them into a 64-32 mark. This game was categorized by efficiency from shooting, 41% on FGs and 41% on 3PTs.
The Husky defense held St Mary’s to a 24.5% effort from FGs while also generating 16 turnovers for them. There were only six fast break points for the Huskies, but what was perhaps the best statistic of the night was 13 offensive rebounds on 33 misses compared to the Gaels’ 11 offensive rebounds on 37 misses. Even with a similar amount of misses, the Huskies kept things far away from their opponent by grabbing nine more defensive rebounds (28-19).
The leading scorer was Dalayah Daniels who saw an efficient 7/8 night generating 14 points. This was her highest scoring game since Hawaii on Thanksgiving weekend and this effort was enough for the team to win handedly.
This win will take the Huskies to 11-0 before they meet Louisville and start Pac-12 play after the holiday break.
Sophomore Guard, Teagan Brown was the team’s leader in rebounds taking eight down including seven defensively.
Lauren Schwartz the Senior Forward led the team in assists with four and tied her season high set previously at the game against Pacific.
Beating WSU meant that the team was 10-0 to start the season for the first time since 1997 and now they get to extend that. They also extend their fifth longest win streak ever with this eleventh win. The next game is this Wednesday against #18 Louisville at 7PM on the ACC Network.
