Dad's Accomplishment Rankings after Week 11

I am seeing more separation between the teams (fewer ties)-which is what I expected.

USC dropped out of the top-25 (to #26) along with Duke (to #27). Neither dropped far because they lost to top-25 teams.

Florida State’s win over Miami (FL) was much better than Ohio State’s win over Michigan State (duh!) which is why they moved to #1. And UW’s win over Utah was about as good as any of the other wins last weekend which helped them move up to #2. The only two better wins were Michigan’s win over Penn State and Georgia’s win over Ole Miss. Strangely, neither moved up much in the rankings. Missouri’s win over Tennessee was another big win and they did move up as a result. North Carolina was the biggest mover (among the top-25) with their win over Duke.

The fact that Liberty is in these rankings is surprising to me. They’ve played one of the easiest schedules of all of the FBS teams. But, they have beaten the 2 best teams in their conference-and the only two with a winning record (New Mexico State and Jacksonville State). And their two remaining games are against the #100 (New Mexico State, again) and the #128 teams in the ESPN FPI. So, they should be able to finish season 12-0.

These rankings last week did a decent job of predicting the teams in the CFP rankings, although the order was quite different for many teams. I expect that I’ll see something similar this week as well.

One team in particular that I expect to see much higher in the CFP ranking is Oregon State. They were #12 last week, and with Ole Miss and Penn State losing last weekend (both of which were ranked above them), I wouldn’t be surprised to have the CFP rank them as high as #10. But they don’t have a great resume. They’ve played just 3 teams with a winning record-and they lost to one of them (beat Utah and UCLA and lost to Arizona), plus they lost to a team with a losing record (WSU). They have played well against most of the other teams that they’ve faced, but they still have to face the two toughest teams in the conference in their next two games.

I expect to see Tulane in the CFP rankings, but they aren’t in here. And I’m not sure why they would be in the CFP rankings. Yes, they are 9-1, but they have no wins over ranked teams-not even any wins over Power-5 teams. In fact, they have only one win over a FBS team with a winning record-Memphis. Plus, their advanced stats rankings are not great. They are #35 in these rankings.

LSU at #15 seems high to me for a team with 3 losses. But those 3 teams have a combined 3 losses (Florida State, Alabama, and Ole Miss). Utah also has lost to teams with a combined 3 losses (Oregon State, Oregon, and UW). That’s why those teams are tied.
