Said woman take it slow and it’ll work itself out fine

- Although much of The Athletic’s college football recruiting content is wet garbage, Antonio Morales and Bruce Feldman’s “Recruiting Confidential” series is the exception. The pair dive into the successes and failures in the West Coast’s prep football hotbed with a panel of experts from different perspectives. UW earns mentions from many as a solid out-of-state power who has built relationships while UCLA and USC have come down a notch in reputation.
- You could be excused if the name of former UW pitcher Andrew Kittredge doesn’t ring a bell, but the Tampa Bay Rays specialize in turning unknown players into stars. They did exactly that with Spokane-native Kittredge, who made his first MLB All-Star Game this year and pitched a perfect inning.
- It’s only tangentially UW-related, but the Seattle Times has a look inside Climate Pledge Arena as it nears the end of its overhaul. The venue looks gorgeous and virtually unrecognizable to the old Key Arena. Here’s hoping we get to watch a UW basketball game or two there in the next few years.
- UW remains in the mix for DL recruit and cult favorite Hero Kanu. Dawgman interviewed Kanu about his final 10 and his plans for Official Visits in the late summer and fall before he makes a final decision.
- The Dodd Trophy, given to the top coach in college football yearly, named a preseason watchlist of 17 coaches. Somewhat surprisingly, Jimmy Lake is the only Pac-12 coach to make the list. It’s good to see that Lake is respected nationally as he establishes himself locally.
- Two Husky baseball players heard their names called in the MLB draft. Tyson Guerrero and Braiden Ward went to the Royals and Rockies, respectively.
