#Woof: Huskies Nab A 2022 Running Back From Texas

Huskies Land 4-Star 2022 Running back Emeka Megwa

NCAA Football: Rose Bowl Game-Ohio State vs Washington Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Huskies continued their recent string of commitments when 4-star running back Emeka Megwa from Timber Creek HS, TX committed to Washington live on CBS Sports HQ. Rated as the 24th best athlete in the 2022 class, Megwa is being brought in as a running back and will instantly figure to push for playing time once he steps on campus.

Listed at 6’1” and 220 pounds Megwa is a bigger power back who can move the sticks and power his way forward. The Huskies were able to beat out Alabama, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas, and Oregon for his commitment. He becomes the first prospect since the beginning of the Chris Petersen era that Washington has signed from the state of Texas who had an offer from the Longhorns. Megwa is also now the 3rd running back from the state of Texas that the Dawgs have brought in recently along with Jay’Veon Sunday and Caleb Berry.

In an abbreviated season this past fall Megwa ran for 730 yards and 12 TDs on the ground at a clip of 5.4 yards per carry. When you watch him play his game looks like a lot like former Husky Myles Gaskin except he’s about 3 inches taller and 30 pounds heavier. He’s not a track champion but is slippery and rarely allows the defender to get a solid blow on him. His highlights also often show catching balls out of the slot and so he can help in the passing game as well. For a more in-depth profile on Megwa check out the write-up from our own Coach B.

The running back spot is definitely crowded at Washington with Cam Davis, Richard Newton, Jay’Veon Sunday, Sam Adams, and Caleb Berry all slotted to be on the roster. It wouldn’t be surprising to see a name or two from that list decide to move on by the fall of 2022 though depending on how the rotation shapes up this fall and next spring.

Megwa becomes the 7th commit in the class of 2022 for Washington and the 6th on the offensive side of the ball. Welcome to Montlake, Emeka!
