The Huskies got some big news (both literally and figuratively), when 4-star defensive lineman Ben Roberts from East High School HS, UT committed to UW. The Huskies beat out Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Oregon, and USC for his services. Listed at 6’4” and around 290 pounds Roberts is a defensive tackle that the Huskies have been focused on for several months. The Huskies have added a few players from East HS, recently including fellow defensive linemen Taki Taimani and also Voi Tunuufi last year.
As a junior Roberts had 7.5 sacks and 85 total tackles for his team (who was able to play a full season). The Huskies will probably play Roberts at the 3 technique but he can also play the 5T if needed. When you watch him play, you can see how quick and strong he is for his size, but he will probably need a year to acclimate to the college game before he is in the rotation on the line. For a more in-depth analysis check out our own Coach B’s prospect breakdown from last month.
Roberts becomes the 6th commit in the 2022 class and the first on the defensive side of the ball. He also is the first in a likely string of commitments over the coming days after a big weekend of official visits just ended.
