It hurts. The final game of the college football season and we get to watch as the 1%-ers of the CFB world square off yet again. We have a full 8 months to continue the debate about whether the playoff is strangling college football by sucking the joy out of any accomplishment available to all but the 4-5 uber-elite programs. For another few hours let’s watch some incredibly dynamic offenses that will take up a major piece of the 1st round of the NFL draft in a few months.

I’m not above some good old fashioned pettiness. Do I want to see Ohio State go down because it will hurt all the more to see them come in and snatch Emeka Egubka then get rewarded with a national title? Absolutely. Do I want to see Ohio State go down because it will hurt all the more to see a conference get rewarded with a national title after they bend the rules to shoehorn their chosen contender into the playoff when the Pac-12 would never? Yes. Do I want to see Ohio State go down because the SEC deserves to finally get a break and win the big one? Wait...

Najee Harris hurdling the Notre Dame defender 10 days ago made me squeal with delight. DeVonta Smith is unstoppable. Justin Fields is capable of ridiculous things. So if you can just forget that the 2 teams are Alabama and Ohio State and enjoy the football game...good for you. I wish I could.
