With 14 commitments in the 2021 class the Huskies only have 6 more spots in the class (projected right now). With numbers getting tight I thought it would be a good idea to look at how the Huskies will try to close out their 2021 class:
Along the defensive line the Huskies are still recruiting 2 players that are located in the state of Washington. 5 star defensive line JT Tuimoloau from Eastside Catholic would be a player the Huskies would take no matter what, but they have stiff competition from OSU, Oregon, and USC. The Huskies are also still actively recruiting 4 star defensive tackle Jacob Schuster from Tumwater HS, WA. The Huskies originally offered Schuster a grey shirt opportunity but they amended they decided they would like to take him without a grey shirt (assuming the numbers work out). Schuster is being recruited by Stanford and Cal as well, but assuming the Huskies have room they should be considered the favorite for Schuster right now.
At wide receiver the Huskies want to add at least 1 more wide out, and the main target for the Huskies is Emeka Egbuka from Steilacoom HS, WA (rated as a 5 star and the #1 wide receiver in the 2021 class). The Huskies are battling OSU, and Oklahoma for Egbuka in his recruitment. If the Huskies can land Egbuka they will probably wrap up their wide receiver recruiting, but if they miss on Egbuka they will go after Troy Franklin who is committed to Oregon or add Tsion Nunnally from Cardinal Newman HS, CA (Franklin is rated as a 4 star by most services whereas Nunnally is rated as a 3 star wide receiver).
At defensive back the Huskies are trying to add at least 2 more defensive backs. It sounds like they want to 1 corner and 1 safety. 3 star cornerback Chance Tucker from Crespi HS, CA is a taller cornerback that the Huskies are battling Notre Dame for. Right now I would say that Tucker will end up being the last cornerback in the 2021 class. At safety the Huskies are mainly looking at Vincent Nunley from Freedom HS, CA who is also being recruited by Utah and Kansas. If the Huskies can’t land Nunley they will look at 3 star safety Placide Djungu-Sungu from Martin HS, TX. If the Huskies can land either safety they will have landed a good free safety.
At running back the Huskies may take another player (depending on how the numbers work). The only player the Huskies are still recruiting is 4 star running back Byron Cardwell from Morse HS, CA. Cardwell is a speed back that the Huskies don’t really have on their roster. The Huskies are battling Cal, UCLA, and Utah for Cardwell but assuming numbers work they should be in the running for Cardwell until he makes his decision.
At tight end the Huskies are looking at adding at least 1 more player (after already having 2 commitments in the class). To close out their tight end recruiting the Huskies are after 4 star tight end Brock Bowers from Napa HS, CA. Bowers is down to Georgia and UW, and his decision should be coming soon (Georgia is his leader, but he just checked out the UW campus for the first time). If the Huskies can’t land Bowers they will turn to 3 star tight end Shield Taylor from Alexandria HS, LA. The Huskies are battling Stanford for his commitment but it sounds like Taylor is going to check out both Stanford and UW (and make his decision shortly thereafter).
If I had to predict right now I would say the Huskies will wrap up their class with: Egbuka, JTT, Schuster, Tucker, Nunnally, and one of the tight ends.
That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
