Recruiting Roundup: A Look At The Offensive Board

Good Morning Husky fans. With around half the class of 2021 already filled I decided it might be a good time to look at the offensive recruiting board and see who the Husky coaches are still targeting:

QB- 5 star quarterback Sam Huard is already committed and the Huskies aren’t planning on taking another QB. Huard is a once a decade QB that should be a star at the quarterback position.

RB- The Huskies are planning on bringing in at least 1 running back and the guys they are after include Byron Cardwell from Morse HS, CA who is rated as a 4 star by 247sports. Jordan Hornbeak from San Joaquin Memorial HS, CA who is rated as a 3 star running back is also heavily considering UW. Caleb Berry from Lufkin HS, TX is another running back the Huskies are after. Both Berry and Cardwell have the ability to score on the field from anywhere, whereas Hornbeak is more of a power back who will move the chains. Right now it looks like Cardwell and Hornbeak are at the top of the Husky board (both have UW in their top schools). If I had to predict right now I would say that the Huskies will land Hornbeak.

WR- The Huskies missed out on one of their top targets when 4 star wideout Troy Franklin committed to Oregon (he may still visit UW if visits open up), however they are still after some other good players. Emeka Egbuka from Steilacoom HS, WA is rated as a 5 star wide receiver and the Huskies are doing their best to land Egbuka. Junior Alexander and Jabez Tinae both who are rated as 4 star wideouts and both are from Kennedy Catholic HS, WA (teammates is Sam Huard). The Huskies have recently offered Tsion Nunnally from Cardinal Newman HS, CA (who is rated as a 3 star wide receiver by 247sports). Right now it sounds like UW will take 2 receivers and if I had to pick I would say that UW will be able to close Egbuka and land Nunnally (it sounds like the Huskies have cooled on Tinae and Alexander). Both Egbuka and Nunnally are bigger wideouts, and any class with Egbuka in it would be a successful class for UW in 2021.

TE- The Huskies already have 3 star tight end Quentin Moore committed, however they are still after another tight end in the 2021 class. Brock Bowers from Napa HS, CA is a big-time tight end who is rated as a 4 star by 247sports (he is rumored to be a Georgia lean but the Huskies are hanging around for him). Erik Olsen from Heritage HS, CO who is rated as a 3 star tight end by 247sports is set to announce his commitment on the 4th of July (it sounds like he is leaning towards staying in-state and commit to Colorado). The Huskies offered Shield Taylor from Alexandria HS, LA recently (he is rated as a 3 star tight end by 247sports). If I had to pick right now I would say the Huskies will probably need to expand their tight end recruiting and will probably land a tight end who hasn’t been offered yet. (Side note the Huskies have landed a commitment from H-Back Caden Jumper from Eatonville HS, WA).

OL- The Huskies have already landed a commitment from Robert Wyrsch from Soquel HS, CA (rated as a 3 star by 247sports). The Huskies are probably looking to add another 2 players along the offensive line and one of their top targets is Owen Prentice from O’Dea HS, WA who is rated as a 4 star by 247sports (it sounds like he is leaning towards UW with a decision coming soon). The Huskies are also still pursuing 3 star tackle Mason Murphy from J Serra Catholic HS, CA (who is committed to USC and may visit UW if visits open up). The Huskies are still evaluating several players and if I had to guess it looks like they will Prentice and another player who hasn’t been offered yet.

So here is my offensive class projection as of now:

QB- Sam Huard

RB- Jordan Hornbeak

WR- Emeka Egbuka, and Tsion Nunnally.

TE- Quentin Moore and ?

H-Back- Caden Jumper

Offensive Line- Robert Wyrsch, Owen Prentice, and ?

Do you agree with my offensive class assessment (feel free to comment below and let me know what you think)?

That is all for now and next week I will rundown the defensive board. Also, stay tuned to the board as it sounds like there may be a few commitments this next week. As always follow me @asieverkropp.
