Welcome to Game Day! The Huskies face the UConn Huskies in a Sweet Sixteen rematch of the memorable 1998 game which was won on a last second Richard Hamilton buzzer beater. The Dawgs, led by Brandon Roy, hope to avenge that loss and advance to the Elite Eight for the first time in school history.
The Huskies play the Huskies in the second game of the Washington D.C. semifinal with 11-seeded George Mason and 7th seeded Wichita State playing in the first game.
How did they get here:
UW cruised past Utah State in the opening round of the tournament, 75-61 in San Diego. Brandon Roy led the Huskies with 28 points and Jamal Williams chipped in with 15 points off the bench. Washington shot a scorching 44% from 3 point range with Roy leading the team with 4 and Bobby Jones and Justin Dentmon adding another 3 each.
In the second-round game against Illinois, the Dawgs needed to come back from an 11 point deficit with less than 4 minutes left to take down the 4th seeded Illini. Roy led the comeback with 21 points. Dentmon helped out with 13 points and Williams chipped in 10 points and 3 blocks off the bench.
The top-ranked UConn Huskies defeated Albany 72-59 in the first round. However, the score does not reflect the fact that the 16th seeded Great Danes held a 12-point second half lead before UConn stormed back behind Marcus Williams’ 21 points and Denham Brown’s 17. They narrowly escaped being the first 1 seed to be ousted by a 16.
In the second round, they edged out Kentucky 87-83. UConn was led by Rudy Gay’s 19 points and Marcus Williams 20 points and 8 assists.

This will be a great matchup between two All American candidates, Gay and Roy. UConn looks vulnerable and ripe for an upset. The Huskies will need the inside presence of Jon Brockman, Mike Jensen and Bobby Jones to battle the length of UConn. Also, Roy will have to rise to the occasion in this matchup of Dogs.
