Looking At The 2021 Class

After not landing anymore scholarship players last Wednesday and sticking pat with the 22 commits that signed during the early period Husky coaches have turned all of their attention to the 2021 class. Husky coaches already have 2 commits in the 2021 class (5 star quarterback commit Sam Huard and 3 star defensive back Zakhari Spears).

The Huskies only have 12 scholarship seniors however they will probably still take a class of 18-20 players (they prefer to take 20 players a class). I wanted to break down the projected target numbers for the 2021 class (and a very early prediction of who may be likely to commit as of today).

Quarterback- Sam Huard appears to be the only player that will be brought in for the 2021 class.

Running Back- The Huskies are looking for 2 running backs after losing Sean McGrew & Kamari Pleasant. Right now the Huskies are after 3 star running back Byron Cardwell from Morse HS, CA (they are also after some Texas running backs but aren’t leading for them).

Wide Receiver- The Huskies will more than likely take 3 receivers which right now looks like 5 star receivers Emeka Egbuka from Steilacoom HS, WA and Troy Franklin from Menlo Atherton HS, CA. The 3rd wide receiver looks like it could be 3 star Junior Alexander from Kennedy Catholic HS, WA. (The Huskies are potentially only losing 1 wide receiver but they will try and capitalize on how much talent is in the 2021 class).

Tight End- After only bringing in 2 tight ends in the 2020 class the Huskies will bring in 2 more in 2021. The Huskies have offered 6 tight ends in 2021 and they are looking good for 4 star tight end Moliki Matavao from Liberty HS, NV (with a new tight end coach the recruiting is still fluid and they may look at other players but the 2021 class is loaded at the TE position).

Offensive Lineman- The Huskies will probably take 3 lineman in the class (they lose Wattenberg and possibly Jackson Kirkland). The Huskies are looking good for 4 star guard Owen Prentice from O’Dea HS, WA and 3 stars Mason Murphy from J Serra Catholic HS, CA and Kuao Peihopa from Kamehameha HS, HI (who may also be slotted to the defensive side of the ball).

Defensive Lineman- The Huskies didn’t bring any defensive lineman in the 2020 class so they will want to bring in at least 2 interior defensive lineman and at least 1 rush end. The Huskies are doing well and need to land 5 star defensive lineman JT Tuimoloau from Eastside Catholic HS, WA (who is the #1 rated player in 2021 per 247sports). The Huskies also recently offered and are pursuing 4 star defensive lineman Quintin Somerville from Saguaro HS, AZ (who may play the Rush end position). The Huskies are also after 3 star rush end Logan Fano from Timpview HS, UT who just de-committed from BYU.

Linebacker- The Huskies are probably only Look to bring in 2 inside linebacker (I am not counting outside linebacker in this number). Right now the Huskies are looking good for 4 star linebackers Wynden Ho’ohuli from Mililani HS, HI and Julien Simon from Lincoln HS, WA.

Defensive Back- The Huskies will more than likely bring in 4 defensive backs (with 1 already committed in Zakhari Spears from Loyola HS, CA). The Huskies have only offered 4 defensive backs but right now they are likely to bring in 4 star cornerback Steven Ortiz from Desert Edge HS, AZ (who just visited UW and was offered last month).

Specialists- The Huskies won’t bring in any specialists in the 2021 class.

The state of WA is loaded in the 2021 class and the Huskies will try to capitalize on it. As I mentioned above the Huskies board is still in flux and new names will probably pop up during the spring evaluation period.

That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
