The Huskies have formally added their top-rated defensive commitment to the 2021 recruiting class with the signing of Will Latu. Washington fans have had their eyes on Latu for a few years as the Spanaway prospect has physically and technically developed into a top recruit. 247 rated Latu as a four-star recruit and the 8th best player in the state of Washington. Due his positional versatility, 247 classified Latu as an athlete, and ranked him 18th in that group nationally.

For the Dawgs, Latu will like wind up at inside linebacker, where his speed will be a welcome addition. Latu has played safety and running back in high school, but at 6’3”, 230 lbs., he already has the size to move closer to the line of scrimmage. Latu’s experience in the secondary has helped him develop his coverage skills, so he should be able to cover tight ends or drop into a zone when needed. Latu’s greatest weakness has been the consistency of his tackling ability, which is an area the Husky coaches have developed very well in players in recent years.
Latu was recruited by some of the biggest teams all over the country with a scholarship offer total in the double digits. Michigan, USC, and Tennessee were among the schools to offer Latu. His top two schools were UW and Utah and he ultimately chose the Dawgs in June and has not wavered in his commitment.
