Signing day for the 2020 class is in less than a week but the Huskies added to their 2021 class this afternoon with the commitment of DB Zakhari Spears.

The 6’3, 185 pound defensive back from Loyola high school in Los Angeles took an unofficial visit to Washington a few days ago and apparently saw all he needed to issue a verbal commitment. Spears is currently rated as a 3-star recruit with a 0.874 grade in the 247 Sports Composite but updates will come soon to the 2021 class based on their junior year performance. He also held offers from Oregon, Utah, and Arizona State among others.

Spears becomes the 2nd player in the UW 2021 recruiting class joining 5-star QB Sam Huard and thus the first on the defensive side of the ball. Washington currently has 4 senior DBs on the roster (Molden, Taylor, Gilchrist, and McKinney) and so will likely try to take at least 3 if not 4 more DBs in this class. He is listed as a cornerback and it’s not a stretch to think that the staff sees him along the same lines as Keith Taylor with that size.
