Welcome to the 3rd annual edition of the UW Husky prop bets portion of the 30-day countdown. Below I’ll be coming up with a number of Washington football related bets that you won’t find at an actual casino and list the odds for each. Take a stab at distributing $100 worth of funny money in the comments and vote on how you’d bet in each category (take into account the odds). If you want to be recognized as the winner at the end of the season you must place at least $10 on all 5 of the props.
For those unfamiliar with betting terminology, -140 means that you would have to bet $140 to win $100. +120 means that a bet of $100 would win you $120.

Last season the answer ended up being 0 but Petersen has said he expects that number to be higher this year. Safety Cameron Williams has been running with the 1’s or 2’s since he showed up on campus in the Spring. Kicker Tim Horn appears in 2nd place behind Peyton Henry as the field goal kicker but might still be used on kickoffs throughout the season with his stronger leg. WR Puka Nacua has gotten rave reviews throughout camp and with the lack of depth on the defensive line we could see any of Laiatu Latu, Faatui Tuitele, Sama Pa’ama, and Jacob Bandes crack the rotation at some point.

Each of the past 3 seasons the Husky coaching staff has been consistent with Myles Gaskin as he’s received between 55.6% and 57.1% of the Husky running back carries. The expectation is that Salvon Ahmed will take over as the feature ball carrier in 2019 but there are questions about whether he can take the same heavy load that Gaskin did. If we hand over all of Gaskin’s carries to Ahmed except for 2 per game which are re-distributed among the other backs on the roster then this becomes an even proposition.

Last season the runaway winner was Byron Murphy who had a combined 17. Jordan Miller and BBK had 8, Myles Bryant had 6, Elijah Molden 5, Taylor Rapp 4, and Keith Taylor 3. The corners have the big advantage and since Taylor and Molden seem the most secure with their roster spot, they are the betting favorites. Myles Bryant might be the favorite if he were guaranteed to be at the nickel spot but if he is taking over Taylor Rapp’s role then he might not have as many coverage responsibilities. Kyler Gordon and Dom Hampton are seemingly fighting for the second outside corner role while Cam Williams and Brandon McKinney are doing the same at safety. Wellington should play 90% of the snaps this year if healthy and BBK got his hands on a decent number of balls in that spot last year.

During the Jake Browning era the Huskies gave up 33 sacks (2015), 26 (2016), 20 (2017), and 24 (2018). On the one hand this appears to be one of the best offensive lines in the country given their returning experience and veteran leadership. However, despite Browning’s propensity to hold onto the ball too long sometimes he also was a pretty good scrambler at times. If Jacob Eason wins the QB job he is definitely a less mobile prospect than Browning but also might be more able to get rid of the ball before the pressure arrives with his arm/height combination.

The winner last season was Myles Gaskin with his 80-yard run to essentially clinch the Apple Cup. Second place was actually just a 43-yard pass to Ty Jones against Oregon and 3rd place was a paltry 26-yard pass to Aaron Fuller against Colorado. Salvon Ahmed is viewed as a bigger home run threat than Myles Gaskin was and is taking over as the lead running back. Also, Jacob Eason definitely has a bigger arm than Jake Browning which could lead to more deep touchdowns like we saw in the 2016 offense when John Ross and Dante Pettis were the wide receivers.
My Bets
$15 on UNDER 3.5 true freshmen burning their redshirt
$20 on Salvon Ahmed carries
$25 on Elijah Molden to lead the team in INTs + PBUs
$20 on 16-20 sacks
$20 on Chico McClatcher longest TD
