Recruiting Roundup: Are The Huskies Close To Landing Several More Commits?

Recruiting Roundup

NCAA Football: Pac-12 Conference Championship-Utah vs Washington Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Huskies have been on a recruiting roll recently with the commitments of 4 star offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett, and 3 star linebacker Cooper McDonald (they also landed 4 star running back Sam Adams a few weeks ago). The Huskies currently have 14 commitments and hold the #20 class in the nation according to 247sports. It still sounds like the Huskies will take around 21-22 players in the class right now.

With fall camp about to start recruiting may slow down a little (until official visits start happening in Sept) however, in the next couple of days you could see some guys commit (to secure their spot and also get their decision done before their senior season). Here are a couple of guys to keep your eye on:

3 star cornerback James Smith from St John Bosco HS, CA just visited UW unofficially this weekend. Smith who holds offers from Oregon, UCLA, Michigan, ASU, and UW is very high on the Huskies and his commitment to UW looks like it may happen in only a matter of time. The Huskies are hoping to take at least 2 corners and if they could wrap up that would start putting pressure on some other guys to push up their decision and lock in their spot. Smith, was a backup to current Husky Trent McDuffie and current Trojan corner Chris Steele last year (both top 100 players), but he has impressed coaches this summer and his stock has really risen. Smith is listed at between 6’1” and 6’2” and 180 pounds currently. Here are some of his highlights:

3 star safety Markell Esteen from Lawndale HS, CA is another guy that I think is close to popping for the Huskies. With offers from Oregon, UW, USC, and several other schools Esteen is one of the better safeties on the west coast. I wrote about him last weekend (possibly being a guy who might commit soon). Esteen would be a big pickup for the Huskies (beating the Ducks for another player they have wanted). Esteen is the 39th best player in California and the 33th best safety in the nation.

The Huskies have a couple of other guys who are also close to committing namely 4 star wideout Rome Odunze and 4 star cornerback Jacobe Covington.

That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
