It is relatively slow right now on the recruiting trail with most of the Husky coaches still laying low before fall practice kick off. Next weekend the Husky coaches are still going to have a few official visitors on campus, and up to this point there hasn’t been anyone confirmed (one of the confirmed visitors 4 star wideout Rome Odunze decided to visit Oklahoma instead). Once I hear who will be in town I will make sure to let everyone know who will be on campus. Currently the Huskies have 12 commitments in the 2020 class and the 23rd rated class per 247sports. There are a few players who look like they are close to joining the Huskies 2020 class and here are some of those players:
4 star offensive lineman Geiran Hatchett from Ferndale HS, WA has been a Husky lean for quite a while. With offers from 30 schools including Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Stanford the Huskies have had some fierce competition for his commitment. However, at the end of the day most experts expect that Geiran Hatchett will commit to UW (he has said he will commit at some point between now and August). I expect Hatchett to commit to UW and wrap up UW’s offensive line class (they already have 3 commits on the offensive line). If he commits to UW Hatchett will play offensive guard and be in the mix to compete for a starting position after a redshirt year (to gain strength and learn the ins and outs of offensive line play). Here is a look at his highlights:
4 star wideout Rome Odunze from Bishop Gorman HS, NV is scheduled to visit Oklahoma next weekend officially, and then head home and make a decision with his family. The Huskies have been heavily recruiting Odunze for a long time and it looks like the Huskies are leading for Odunze going into his Oklahoma visit. The Huskies had Odunze up for an unofficial visit during the spring and had hoped to have him up this next weekend. Rated by 247 sports as the 217th best prospect and 42nd best wideout, Odunze has seen his stock rise recently when schools like Oklahoma and Alabama extended offers his way. The Huskies have been actively trying to get bigger wideouts, and listed at around 6’2 1/2” Odunze has the height and weight (he is listed at 200 pounds) to be an instant contributor right away. This spring Odunze clocked a 10.67 100 which is flying (roughly the same speed as Jalen McMillan). If the Huskies land Odunze they will more than likely wrap up their wide receiver recruiting (they already have 2 wideouts committed). Here is a look at some of Odunze’s highlights:
3 star safety Makell Esteen from Lawndale HS, CA visited UW officially the first weekend in June. The Huskies have been battling Oregon for Esteen’s commitment and it appears right now that the Huskies are leading for him. Listed at 6’1” and around 170 pounds, Esteen is rated by 247sports as the 409th best player and 30th best safety in the country. The Huskies are looking at adding at least 1 safety in the 2020 class (along with a swing player who could play safety or corner) and Esteen would be a bigtime pickup for the Huskies in the defensive backfield. When I watch his film I see a lot of similarities to Taylor Rapp (even though he is playing corner) he is always around the ball and has great ball skills. Here is a look at his highlights:
There are some other guys who are close to committing (with the Huskies leading) including 3 star linebacker Cooper McDonald from Northwest HS, TX and 3 star cornerback James Smith from St John Bosco HS, CA (who is scheduled to officially visit UW this coming weekend). I had 4 star Jacobe Covington on my Woof watch, but it sounds like he will be waiting a few months before committing (the Huskies are still leading for his services).
That is all for now and as always follow me at @asieverkropp.
