The Huskies were able to secure the commitment of a second tight end in the 2020 class a few weeks ago when 3 star tight end Mason West from La Habra HS, CA verbally committed to UW. West, who is rated as the 44th best tight end in the class by 247sports committed to UW over offers from Boise State, and Oregon State. I was able to chat Mason about his recruitment, and here is what he had to say:
When did you first start communicating with UW?
I first started communicating with UW in early February.
It sounds like you did pretty well as a Husky camp, what camp was that and how do you feel you did?
It was at the Boise State & Washington camp at Whittier College. I thought I did pretty well.
What did you think when you got the UW offer and which coach offered you?
Coach Peterson offered me on the phone. When I got the offer I felt great about it and I was excited.
Which other schools were recruiting you?
The other schools that were recruiting me were Oregon State, Yale, UCLA, Cal, UNLV, and Boise State.
What is UW telling you about what kind of tight end they envision you being in their system?
The kind a tight end that they envision me being a solid blocker but more of a pass catcher.
Are you going to graduate early or just enroll in summer?
I am not too sure about graduating early yet but most likely it will be in the summer.
Last season West hailed in 22 receptions for 372 yards and 5 touchdowns. West is player who does look a lot like Drew Sample on film to me. Here is a look at some highlights:
That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
