Recruiting Roundup

NCAA Football: Rose Bowl Game-Ohio State vs Washington Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

This last week the Huskies landed a critical piece of their 2020 when 3-star quarterback Ethan Garbers from Corona Del Mar HS, CA committed to UW. Garbers is one of the better Class of 2020 quarterbacks in California, listed at 6’2” and around 195 pounds. 247sports rates Garbers the 42nd best pro-style quarterback in the 2020 class. When he committed, Garbers held offers from Miami, Georgia, UCLA, Colorado, Utah, and Boise State.

The Huskies only offered three quarterbacks in the 2020 class. When the first two appeared headed elsewhere, the Huskies really focused their efforts on Garbers. He passed for over 4,100 yards and 55 total touchdowns last year for his team (his first full year as the varsity starter). Here are his junior highlights:

One of the most critical things about getting Garbers in the boat early was to get a lead recruiter in the 2020 class and Garbers has been active on Twitter to try and get some of the top California players to join him (he has already reached out to 5-star wideout Johnny Wilson and 4-star offensive lineman Myles Murao). Garbers also has two teammates who currently hold a Husky offer: 4-star wideout John Humphreys and 3-star tight end Mark Redman. Redman, who will join Garbers to check out spring practice in April, is the more likely to follow him to UW.

Things are fairly quiet right now with the Husky staff getting ready for spring ball. Once spring ball, starts some top targets for UW will be making their way up to Montlake to check out the Dawgs. Here are some prospects expected to check out UW this spring:

4-star wideout Gary Bryant from Centennial HS, CA.

3-star tight end Mark Redman from Corona Del Mar, HS.

4-star wideout Jalen McMillan from San Joaquin HS, CA.

3-star running back Jayveon Sunday from Connally HS, TX.

Most of the local offered prospects will also be at UW to check out practice. Four-star offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett from Ferndale HS, WA is the most likely to commit early (he has stated that he wants to commit before his senior season). It would not be surprising if Hatchett committed to UW sometime this spring.

That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
