This has been a long time coming for Bruener who is the son of former Husky great and NFL TE Mark Bruener. The 6’1, 200 pound Carson attended local Redmond high school and put up phenomenal stats for a team that didn’t have as much success as he would’ve liked. He finished his senior season with 122 tackles and 13.5 tackles for loss. Carson was named KingCo 4A Crown Division Defensive MVP.
Perhaps no position on the roster will be as wide open going into next season as inside linebacker. With opening day starters Kyler Manu and Brandon Wellington both graduating there are 2 open spots. The deck would certainly seem to be stacked against Bruener actually starting right away however. Edefuan Olofoshio will be a favorite after he came on at the end of the season and fellow underclassmen Jackson Sirmon, MJ Tafisi, Josh Calvert, Daniel Heimuli, Alphonso Tuputala, and Miki Ah You will also be competing for that spot.
More than likely we will see Bruener redshirt this upcoming season and then spend a year or two contributing on special teams before working his way up the depth chart with 7 players at the position in the two grades above him fighting for 2 spots.
