Huskies Land Local 4-Star Big Man for Class of 2021

Olympia’s Jackson Grant becomes the first Husky commit for 2021

NCAA Basketball: NCAA Tournament-Washington Huskies vs Utah State Aggies Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

On the heels of a massive win last night to open the season against Baylor, Coach Hopkins received more great news when 4-star Jackson Grant announced he has committed to Washington.

The big man out of Olympia is listed as 6’9 and 205 pounds and ranked as the #53 player in the country per the 247 sports composite. Grant took an official visit to Washington over the weekend of the Utah football game and decided to make official what he had been leaning towards for a while.

Grant grew up a fan of the Huskies and Washington has long been considered the favorite. He took a visit to Stanford this fall and had expressed interest in Wisconsin but staying home and playing for Hopkins won out. Grant took place in the USA Basketball minicamp two months ago and is one of the most versatile big men in the 2021 class. He played for Washington Supreme on the Under Armor circuit this past year and averaged 14.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game while shooting 50% from 3-pt range on nearly 2 attempts per game.

Grant is probably closest to Hameir Wright on the current Husky roster as a lanky big man with the ability to both rim protect and hit open jumpers. He may not quite have the agility of Hameir but is a better shooter and overall offensive player. Conveniently, Grant will join the team immediately after Hameir graduates.

The Huskies currently have no one signed up in their 2020 recruiting class which means they’ll have up to 5 spots for the 2021 class. Grant was one of 6 local 4-star prospects in the class with interest in Washington. He was also the most likely to end up in purple and gold and the first to jump in the boat.

Welcome Jackson and we can’t wait to see you on Montlake!
