Recruiting Roundup: A Look At What To Expect For The Early Signing Period

An Early Peak Into The Early Signing Day For 2020

With Signing Day coming up on December 18th I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the Huskies 2020 class (not a player by player look, which I will do in a few weeks) and also speculate on any surprises that may happen.

The Huskies currently have 21 commitments in their 2020 class, which is ranked 2nd in the Pac 12 and 15th nationally according to 247sports. All of the Huskies current commits are expected to sign on the 18th. The headliners of the class are 5 star outside linebacker Sav’ell Smalls from Kennedy Catholic HS, WA and 4 star wideout Jalen McMillan from San Joaquin HS, CA. Both players had their choice of where they wanted to go but ultimately decided that UW was the best school for them. The 2020 class loaded up on offense with 12 of the 22 commits including 5 offensive lineman, 4 of which are 4 stars. They were also able to land 3 wideouts with McMillans commitment and also 4 star wideout Rome Odunze from Bishop Gorman HS, NV. The defensive class may be looked at as underrated a few years from now but they were able to load up on the back end with 3 DB’s and 3 linebackers joining the class.

The Huskies do have room for a few more players and here is a look at some guys to watch out for:

4 Star cornerback Jacobe Covington from Saguaro HS, AZ de-committed from UW a few weeks ago but it sounds like he might come back full circle and sign with UW on the 18th. USC, Clemson and ASU were pushing for his services and if UW can bring Covington back into the fold they will have solidified their defensive backfield class for 2020.

3 star tight end Jake Overman from Servite HS, CA visited UW a few weeks ago officially and is definitely a guy to keep your eye on. The Huskies want to add a 3rd tight end and Overman is a guy they really like, but he is also looking at OSU, and Cal. The Huskies will also host 4 star tight end (rated by 247sports) Jack Yary From Murrieta Valley HS, CA. Yary, who recently de-committed from USC is set to visit UCLA, Oregon, and UW before the early signing period ends. Listed at 6’6”and 250 pounds Yary is one of the best tight ends on the west coast and would be a great 1-2 punch along with current 3 star tight end commit Mark Redman.

The Huskies are also looking to add a defensive lineman in the class and they are going after 2 guys right now in 3 star defensive end Lance Keneley from Mission Viejo HS, CA and 4 star defensive end Xavier Carlton from Juan Diego HS, UT. Both players haven’t set an official visit yet but the Huskies are hoping they can get 1 of them to visit and commit prior to the 18th. If either player does visit it will be a sign that UW thinks that they can snag them prior to the early signing period.

That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
