It’s hard to believe that we are already nearing the halfway point of the regular season. But here we are. Let’s talk about this weekend’s action.
Washington Husky Fan Rooting Guide
There aren’t a ton of games that present themselves as opportunities for Washington or the rest of the PAC to gain ground in the post-season sweepstakes. But it is often on weekends like this ... where nothing weird is expected ... that weird happens. Here are some of the games I’ll be paying attention to:
Cal at #13 Oregon
Root for: pain
Justin Wilcox is pissed. Evan Weaver is pissed. Just about everybody attached to the Cal Bear team is pissed. It’s a pisser down in Berkeley.
The way that Cal got bowled over by the ASU rushing attack in their home loss to the Sun Devils last weekend has left a bad taste in the collective mouth of Cal football. I’m expecting to see a sense of desperation and an “us against the world” mentality as they travel up to Skinner’s Mudhole and try to stick it to the PAC 12’s resident prima donna QB.
And they just might do it.
#7 Auburn at #10 Florida
Root for: Gator Chomp
The Gators probably are less of a threat than Auburn is to make a run at the second SEC team scenario given that they are a little more banged up and starting their backup QB for the forseeable future.
By the way, Bill Connelly has the read of the weekend with his thoughts on “how to fix the broken SEC conference scheduling problem”. I won’t give away the punch line, but the phrase, “this barely qualifies as a conference” is used.
#25 Michigan State vs #4 Ohio State
Root for: more losses in the Big Ten
As of right now, the Big Ten has five undefeated teams. Neither Michigan team are included in that but both are contenders for the East. Can you spell “l-o-g j-a-m”?
We need to start spreading some losses around. Go Spartans!
Upset Picks
#14 Iowa at #19 Michigan (-3.5)
This is one of those weird moments where the lower ranked team is favored mostly due to the home field advantage. Thus picking Iowa is actually an upset. I’m picking Iowa.
#11 Texas (-10.5) at West Virginia
I just don’t believe Texas is worthy of a #11 ranking given what we’ve seen from them to date. I certainly don’t think they are worthy of being a 10.5 point road favorite against the Moutaineers. Texas might win this, but that’s too many points for them to cover.
Cal at #13 Oregon (-20)
What!?! 20 points???
Take that all day long. There is no way that Oregon beats Cal by 20 no matter how bad you think Devon Modster is. The Cal secondary alone is enough to take away Justin Herbert’s passing game. I could see this going 24-13 or something like that. But not 20 points. That’s crazy.
