Greetings from rainy Amsterdam where I will be relegated to sketchy streaming schemes to watch the Dawgs upset the Ducks tonight.
Husky Fan Rooting Guide - Week 8
#12 Oregon at #25 Washington
Root for: WOOF
Obviously, there is one and only game that matters to Husky fans this weekend. It’s Oregon time. And the intrigue surreounding this team is as great as any Oregon / UW game we’ve seen in years. Can Oregon QB Justin Herbert overcome the season ending loss of his safety-blanket tight end Jacob Breeland? Can UW’s young defensive front get anything going against Oregon’s veteran offensive line? Can Jacob Eason pick up where he left off in the second half of the Arizona road trip and keep developing rapport with the emerging Puka Nacua? Will UW kicker Peyton Henry be the difference?
This game is richer than a slice of Nona’s flourless chocolate cake. It has everything that any fan can hope for going into the game. Let’s hope it delivers.
Upset Picks
Temple at #19 SMU Mustangs (-9.5)
The Mustangs are a great story and are currently undefeated. Temple has already beaten a #23 team (Memphis last week) and a #21 team (Maryland in week 2). A Mustang let down seems plausible.
#17 Arizona State at #13 Utah (-14)
14 points???? 14 points???? Somewhere in Hill Valley, Doc Brown has quit worrying about 1.21 gigawatts and is freaking out over 14 points to ASU. Seriously, there may be 14 points scored between these two teams.
#12 Oregon at #25 Washington (+3)
Sorry. UW as a home dog isn’t something that a Chris Petersen team has had to endure since some guy named Cyler Miles was the starting quarterback. That it is against a team that scored 17 points against Cal, lost to a comparable Auburn team “on the road” and faced similar offensive struggles against Stanford that UW did doesn’t exactly buoy a sense of confidence if you are a Duck fan. Beyond that, there is simply no way that the home team or their raucous fans are going to tolerate the disrespect from the pundits.
Of course, I’m biased. What can’t be debated is that the PAC 12 finally has its first true, national headline-grabbing, throw-down style, main event kind of game between two teams that really don’t like each other. It ought to be a good time.
