Talking With A UW Offensive LinemanCommit

NCAA Football: North Dakota at Washington Jennifer Buchanan-USA TODAY Sports

I recently got a chance to talk with 3 star UW commit Troy Fautanu from Liberty HS, NV. He committed to UW a little less than 2 weeks ago. Here is our Q & A with him:

How did you first get in contact with UW and were you familiar with the program before?

I got in contact during my sophomore year during spring ball. Coach Paopao has came to the school to come check me out and told me that they don’t really offer early and that they needed to do a more i depth evaluation. I was already familiar with the program as I had a close family friend who attended there. I use to live up in Tacoma, so I knew about the school growing up.

What other programs were you heavily considering?

I had 21 total offers and I cut the list down to 8. Those schools were: Oregon, Washington, Utah, UCLA, Duke, Notre Dame, Cal, USC. These were the ones that I liked the most after visiting. Then after a period of time it came down to Utah, USC, and Washington!

What made you decide to commit to UW?

I had take into account of how much that new coaching staff had turned the whole program around. I loved the environment and the feeling of it being a home away from home. Everything about Washington was just what I was looking for in a school. From the academics to the football.

Have you been in touch with any other commits or recruiting any other players?

I have been talking to Miki Ah You, Taj Davis, Nathaniel Kalepo, etc.

Are you planning on enrolling early or in the fall?

I will be enrolling early right after finishing my last semester here. I will start January 7th, 2019.

What position do the coaches envision you playing along the Offensive line?

The coaches have been communicating to me that I will most likely be playing tackle. Left or right. But I am open minded to playing any position as I want the best chance to touch the field as much and as early as I can.

That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
