#5 Washington shut out #4 Oklahoma 3-0 in the first semifinal on Sunday, earning a spot in the championship series starting Monday night.
By winning the first game, UW avoided a winner-take-all second game later in the day.
UW faces either #3 UCLA or #6 Florida State in a best-of-three championship series starting Monday night. Florida State would need to win twice today to stop the Bruins from earning the other championship spot.
Trysten Melhart made the play of the game defensively in strangely similar fashion to Thursday. The same hitter she robbed in the opener, Shay Knighten, hit a sinking line drive with 2 on and 2 out to right field. Melhart dove in and stole at least one RBI from the 2017 WCWS MVP.
Taran Alvelo (23-4) was fantastic, scattering 7 hits over 7 scoreless innings. She walked none and fanned 6. Julia DePonte went 3 for 3, driving in 2 and hitting her 16th homer of the season.
Paige Lowary (10-2) took the loss for OU, going 2+ IP and allowing 4 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 1 walk and no strikeouts.
