Instant: Huskies Sweep Alabama for 13th trip to WCWS

#5 Washington followed up a dramatic rally vs the Crimson Tide yesterday by routing them in game 2.

Edward Strong

5th-seeded Washington rolled over #12 Alabama to secure the program’s first back-to-back WCWS appearances since 2009-10.

Taran Alvelo (22-4) pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just 3 hits. She struck out 8 and walked none. Courtney Gettins took the loss for Alabama, going 3 13 IP and giving up 3 runs on 8 hits.

Taylor Van Zee and Noelle Hee each hit solo home runs. Van Zee hit her 9th long ball on the second pitch of the game to right-center to give UW a quick 1-0 lead. Noelle Hee hit her seventh on a titanic no-doubt blast with 1 out in the 4th.

Washington advances to play #4 Oklahoma in the first round of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City next Thursday. The full schedule will be announced once all regionals are complete, which could be either late tonight or tomorrow evening.
