Trent McDuffie is a DAWG!

Pulling in a top-100 four star DB recruit has become a yearly tradition for Jimmy Lake and the Huskies. Like so many of his teammates currently on the roster, he was picked to go elsewhere by the experts throughout most of his recruitment. In 2016, Byron Murphy was supposed to go to Arizona State. Elijah Molden in 2017 was going to follow in father’s footsteps and play for Oregon. Kyler Gordon and Julius Irvin were both heading to Notre Dame last year. And this year, the smart money was on McDuffie committing to Stanford.

But, Jimmy Lake proved again that he’s an elite recruiter and developer of talent by reeling in each one of those highly sought after prospects, and McDuffie might be the best of the bunch. Some scouts think he has the highest ceiling of all the players Lake has brought in due to his combination of athleticism and skills, which is a scary thought. 247 has him rated as the #8 CB in this class and #66 overall. He had offers from all over the country, including Alabama and Michigan, but most felt it was a UW-Stanford battle.

In McDuffie the Huskies are getting a player who is an electric and explosive athlete who excels as a pure cover corner. His athleticism, quickness in and out of breaks, and ball skills will remind fans of a Byron Murphy/Austin Joyner type of talent. He also returns punts for St. John Bosco, and will get an opportunity there for the Huskies. In terms of his role in the secondary, he projects as a pure CB prospect and will likely slide into a corner role similar to Byron Murphy.
