Coach Pete has to be smiling today because one of the top players on the Husky recruiting board committed to UW this evening just in time for the early signing period. 4-star defensive end Laiatu Latu from Jesuit HS, CA chose UW over offers from around the country including USC, Alabama, Georgia, and Oregon. His final 3 schools were Washington, USC, and UCLA. Latu is listed at 6’5” and around 240 pounds currently. 247 sports has him listed as a top-125 prospect nationally and the 6th best Weak-Side Defensive End in the class.
Husky coaches are projecting him to end up at the BUCK position due to his ability to rush the passer. Latu has been rumored to be a USC lean for a long time so the fact that the Huskies were able to steal him away right before signing day is a major coup for the UW coaching staff. When you watch his film you can tell he has a big time motor, is very physical, and can really get after the quarterback.

Here are his senior season highlights:
Latu is the 21st commit for the class and is expected to sign tomorrow. That is all for tonight, but tomorrow we will be providing recruiting coverage when each NLI arrives. As always follow me @asieverkropp.
