Early Signing Day Primer: A Look At The Commits And Recruiting Board

Signing Day Primer

NCAA Football: Pac-12 Conference Championship-Utah vs Washington Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

With signing day coming up on Wednesday I thought it would be a good idea to look at the class and also look at who is left on the board. Right now all of the committed players are scheduled to sign on Wednesday. The Huskies are still looking at adding a few more players to their class. Here is a look at the current commits:

4 star defensive tackle Faatui Tuitele from St Louis HS, HI committed to UW over offers from Alabama, USC, Texas, Clemson, Ohio State, and a host of other schools. Tuitele is a top 100 player and with UW losing both starting defensive tackles he will probably be in the rotation right away.

4 Star defensive tackle Jacob Bandes from Pittsburg HS, CA committed to UW back in the summer over offers from Clemson, Ole Miss, Oregon, and a several other schools. He is scheduled to enroll in January and figures to be in the rotation next year.

4 star defensive back Trent Mcduffie from St John Bosco HS, CA committed he last week over offers from USC, Stanford, Alabama, and LSU. With UW losing both starting corners Mcduffie looks like he will push for playing time next year, and possibly also returning punts for UW.

4 star defensive back Asa Turner from Carlsbad HS, CA committed to UW this last summer over offers from Notre Dame, USC, Oregon, and Michigan. Notre Dame has been trying to flip him ever since his commitment and until he signs his LOI and sends it to UW I would worry a little bit about his commitment, but I do think he will stick with UW and sign his LOI.

4 star quarterback commit Dylan Morris from Graham Kapowsin committed to UW last year over offers from Notre Dame, and Oregon. He will compete for the starting QB job after a few years it looks like.

4 star inside linebacker Josh Calvert from Oaks Christian HS, CA committed to UW over offers from UCLA, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Florida. With both starting inside line backers graduating Calvert will have a chance to be in the rotation next year.

4 star running back Cameron Davis from Upland HS, CA committed UW this spring over offers from Cal, and Nevada. After he committed USC offered and tried to flip him however he is firm in his commitment to UW.

4 star offensive tackle Julius Buelow from Kapolei HS, HI on his official visit over offers from Notre Dame, Florida, Oregon, and Utah. He is a massive tackle listed at 6’8” and around 320 pounds, and he will be in the rotation after a redshirt year.

4 star offensive tackle Nathaniel Kalepo from Rainier Beach HS, WA committed to UW last year over offers from Oregon, USC, and Michigan. Kalepo has been one of the biggest recruiters for the Huskies over the last year.

4 star defensive tackle Sama Paama from Kaimuki HS, HI committed to UW over offers from Oregon, and USC. He was the first commit from Hawaii this year and helped the Huskies land several other players from the Islands.

4 star defensive back Kamren Fabiculanan Fromm Westlake HS, CA committed to UW over offers from Oregon, Nebraska, and a host of other schools. He will compete for playing time this year with the departure of both starting corners.

3 star defensive back Cameron Williams committed to UW this summer after he decommitted from Oregon, and looking very hard at USC as well. With both starting safeties departing (Rapp is more than likely NFL bound) Williams figures to be in the rotation right away.

3 star defensive end Bralen Trice from Sandra Day O’Connor HS, AZ committed to UW over offers from Oregon, USC, and Alabama. He is projected to play the Buck position at UW.

3 star offensive lineman Troy Fautanu from Liberty HS, NV committed to UW this fall over offers from USC, Oregon, Notre Dame, and UCLA, Fautanu is a versatile prospect that can play guard or tackle for the Huskies.

3 star wideout Taj Davis from Upland HS, CA committed to UW earlier this year over offers from UCLA, Stanford, and Utah. He will probably need to redshirt a year and add some weight, and strength before he sees the field.

3 star offensive lineman Corey Luciano from Diablo Valley College, CA committed to UW over offers from USC, and Nebraska. Luciano redshirted this last year, which will allow him 3 years to play 3 after he enrolls in January.

3 star defensive tackle Noa Ngalu from Menlo Atherton HS, CA committed to UW over offers from Arizona, ASU, and Colorado. Ngalu will probably need a redshirt year before he sees the field at defensive tackle.

3 star linebacker Miki Ah You from Kahuku HS, HI committed to UW over offers from Oregon, Nebraska, and Ole Miss. Ah You tore his ACL earlier this season, but he is scheduled to enroll early and rehab at UW to try and be ready to play in 2019.

3 star linebacker Alphonzo Tuputala from Federal Way HS, WA committed to UW after receiving an offer from Coach Pete. He is more than likely going to play middle linebacker or as a Buck for the Huskies.

Lastly, but one of the most important recruits in the class 3 star kicker Tim Horn from Punahou HS, HI committed to UW shortly after he got an offer from Coach Pete. With some of the kicking woes the Huskies had this year Horn looks like he will challenge for the starting kicking job in the fall.

With 20 commits the Huskies have room for a few more guys, here is a look at who is still on the board:

4 star defensive lineman Laiatu Latu from Jesuit HS, CA visited UW this last weekend and has the Huskies high on his list. He also is looking very strongly at USC, and he is scheduled to commit on his birthday in late December. Right now I would say UW has the edge over USC after his recent official visit.

5 star wide receiver Kyle Ford from Orange Lutheran HS, CA visited UW earlier this fall. He is a bigtime wideout who is also looking at Oregon, and USC. He is scheduled to commit at the Army All American Game the first weekend in January and I would say the Huskies have a great shot at landing him and get a second wideout for the class.

4 star inside linebacker Daniel Heimuli from Menlo Atherton HS, CA was set to visit UW this last weekend but had to delay his visit due to him team playing the championship game. He looks to be a Husky lean and right now it looks like he would commit to UW after he officially visits them.

3 star tight end Kyle Patterson from Perry HS, AZ visited UW this last weekend after he received a Husky offer. He wants to visit Air Force in January and will make his decision after that visit (his sister attends Air Force). I would say that UW is the leader for his services right now.

A couple of other guys on the board but I would call long shots now are Henry To’oto’o from De La Salle HS, CA and Stephon Wright from Cathedral HS, CA. Both players appear to be leaning elsewhere right now.

If the Huskies can land a few of the players left on their board they will probably finish with a top 15 class by most recruiting services.

That is all for now and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
