The football Dawgs are on a bye week but the MBB Dawgs are in action tonight with a road trip to Auburn taking on the Tigers of the SEC. Auburn, as you may recall, was an NCAA tournament team last season. They fell to Clemson in the second round.
This is obviously the second time that a Washington athletics team has taken on Auburn. I can’t ever recall another time when a UW team played the same SEC team twice in scheduled games in the same calendar year. I know that I will feel a little bit of redemption should our Huskies go down South (again) and stick it to the #11 ranked Tigers.
Let’s get to the Dots.
- Know thy opponent.
- More bowl projections
- Jake the QB breaks it down.
- Shutdown corner
The only thing more surprising than seeing that Byron Murphy isn’t higher on this list is the fact that Iman Marshall is:
Iman Marshall has blossomed into one of the nation's top cornerbacks in his final season at USC - as he's currently second in yards allowed per snap in coverage in the countryhttps://t.co/cG2p5JSvV2 pic.twitter.com/RRtPohpNjb— PFF College (@PFF_College) November 9, 2018
- Amber Melgoza and friends take the court.
WBB star Amber Melgoza paced the Huskies with 18 points in UW’s season opening victory over Cal State Fullerton. Percy Allen writes that the most interesting development of the night was the emergence of some complementary pieces to the PAC’s second leading scorer from last season.

The Volleyball team got back into the rankings after a big sweep of the Arizona schools. Check out Ed Stong’s recap.
In honor of John Sayler for whom I am subbing in today, I offer you my own Retro Dot:
The last time UW played an SEC team in Basketball was the 2010-2011 season when Lorenzo Romar’s Dawgs fell to #8 Kentucky in a preseason tournament in Hawaii. 2010 is the season many fans point to as the beginning of the unraveling of the Romar era. This game was particularly significant in that a pair of uber recruits - Terrence Jones and Enes Kanter - were both flipped from Washington to Kentucky on signing day before this season leaving Romar’s recruiting class in tatters. While Terrence Ross (who came out of that same class) proved to be a solid contributor during his short time in a Husky uniform, Abdul Gaddy ended up not becoming the impact player that was envisioned. Once Isaiah Thomas, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Venoy Overton moved on, Washington’s depth disappeared and the spiral began.
