College Football Week 9 Rooting Guide, TV/Streaming Schedule and Open Thread

Much has to happen this weekend if UW hopes to keep slim playoff dreams alive.

NCAA Football: Houston at Navy Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

Earlier this week, I broke down the barely viable path that still exists for UW to get to the Playoff. It remains true that no two-loss team has ever reached the CFP. That said, we’d never had two teams from the same conference until last season. If the situation warrants it, we can count on the selection committee not to be wed to precedent.

That said, the things that must happen and things that would be great if they did happen are starting to add up for Husky fans if the hope is becoming the first two-loss team to ever get into the Playoff.

Here is a condensed version of this week’s rooting guide:

Must Happen

#15 UW at Cal: a convincing UW win

Obviously.

Would Be Great

#9 Florida at #7 Georgia: Florida

The best scenario for UW is if Florida beats Georgia this week (handing the Bulldogs their second loss) and then Georgia beats Kentucky next week (handing them their second loss). That would setup Florida for a run to the SEC championship and a potential beatdown by ‘Bama. Sweet.

#6 Texas at Oklahoma State: OKST

This one is going to happen. And it will be awesome.

#3 Notre Dame at Navy: duh.

Well, it is at Navy. That’s something.

#18 Iowa at #17 Penn State: Iowa

This sounds counter-intuitive, but the bet here is that Penn State could put together a competitive two-loss résumé if they somehow emerged out to win the Big Ten. I’d rather not test that theory. Iowa will lose another along the way. And they played the Lions sooooo close last year.

The Rose Bowl

Of much more likelihood is a postseason appearance in the Rose Bowl. For that to happen, the rooting guide for UW is pretty straight forward. We Husky fans are rooting for anything that makes it easier for UW to win the North and a favorable matchup in the South.

#23 Utah at UCLA: Go Chip!

UCLA is tied for first (in the loss column) in the South. Think about that for a second. I don’t want anything to do with a Utah rematch. So I’m rooting Bruins.

#14 WSU at #24 Stanford: pick ‘em

If you pressed me, I’d say root for WSU because Stanford’s PAC 12 schedule is pretty much a cakewalk after the UW game. That said, if UW doesn’t beat Stanford next week its chances of winning the PAC are pretty much nil no matter the outcome of this game.

That’s all I got. Here is your full Friday night and Saturday TV/streaming schedules. Enjoy.
