Husky Basketball Hosts Pair of Recruits

Plus another target takes a visit elsewhere

VISITING ELSEWHERE

Marcus Zegarowski

PG; Tilton High School, NH; 6’1”, 165

Scout: 3 stars; 247 Sports: 3 stars; ESPN: 4 stars, #96 Overall

The sense has been that Zegarowski has been leaning towards Creighton for a while and his actions in the last 2 weeks haven’t done anything to dismiss that. When Marcus cut down to his Final 4 of UW, Ohio State, Minnesota, and Creighton he said that he wanted to make a decision by September and that he wasn’t planning on taking any additional visits. That changed with his decision to take an official to Creighton this weekend. I wouldn’t be shocked if he commits while on the visit and this was a final test to confirm the decision he’s already made. However, if we get a few days out and there’s still no word then it may mean that he’s having second thoughts and may decide to take an official visit elsewhere. Zegarowski has finally started to get some respect from the recruiting experts as both Scout and ESPN recently gave him an additional star and ESPN moved him into their top-100. UW is in wait and see mode here but they will likely turn their focus to Xavier Johnson now.

EDIT: As expected, Zegarowski committed to Creighton on Monday night.

VISITING UW

Xavier Johnson

PG; Bishop O’Connell High School, VA; 6’3”, 170

Scout: 3 stars; 247 Sports: 3 stars

Nate Roberts

PF; Brewster Academy, NH; 6’10”, 220

Scout: 3 stars; 247 Sports: 3 stars; ESPN: 4 stars

And that folks, is what we in the business like to call a segue. Both Johnson and Roberts are taking official visits this weekend to UW. Given the likelihood that Zegarowski ends up elsewhere, Johnson has taken on greater importance since point guard is a critical need with only David Crisp a viable PG on the roster right now. Elijah Hardy is the only other PG which UW has offered who is still available (besides the aforementioned Zegarowski). This is the first of Johnson’s 5 official visits he’ll take on consecutive weekends (along with Creighton, Nebraska, Georgia Tech, and South Florida). He’s planning on taking an unofficial to Georgetown since he lives in the area and also added South Carolina to the list in the interim. If Zegarowski does end up committing to Creighton then there’s a decent chance Johnson cancels the Creighton trip and replaces it with South Carolina. I’d be shocked if he were to commit during the visit given he already has dates set for the others but who knows.

The Dawgs are in the same boat with Roberts who is taking the first of his official visits this weekend. Getting a big man is just as critical as a point guard but UW has more targets remaining at that position. Bryan Penn-Johnson is the true center the Huskies are looking for, is still out there, and has higher upside than Roberts. UW also has offers out to Kamaka Hepa, Majur Majok, George Conditt, and the local Nic Lynch who all could play a similar role to Roberts. You can check out what Rivals’ Corey Evans has to say about both recruits and the importance of their visit here.
