As it is the first practice of camp, it was a lighter workout with no helmets or pads:

Key piece of this year’s defensive line:
NT Greg Gaines, who missed spring ball with a pec injury, wearing large warp over chest/shoulder but otherwise looks full-go.

Another player who will see the field this year in an OLB/BUCK role:
LB Connor O'Brien, coming off major knee injury in Apple Cup, also appears full-go.

That’s a deep and talented group of linebackers right there:

The true freshman is one of the fastest player on the team already:
Salvon Ahmed is, uh, fast. Day 1 with no pads, but his burst through the line is something else.

Ah, good ol’ green 35. That’s KJ Carta-Samuels practicing snaps:

He attended most of spring practice, too:
Bothell High's Jacob Sirmon here watching QB drills closely.

Salvon Ahmed is getting work at two positions:
Salvon Ahmed working at running back and receiver today. Weird to say on Day 1, but hard to imagine him not contributing this season.
— Adam Jude (@A_Jude) August 1, 2017
Salvon Ahmed, the frosh RB from Juanita, is indeed working with wide receivers.
— Adam Jude (@A_Jude) August 1, 2017
Salvon Ahmed running routes and catching passes with receivers during early drill. Petersen said yesterday they could use him some out wide.

Walk on who recently was awarded a scholarship:
Jimmy Lake said Petersen surprised Myles Bryant with news of his scholarship. Bryant's reaction? "OK." Even-keel kind of guy.

Other news and notes:
True freshman rush end Ariel Ngata is at home dealing with personal business and missed practice today, DC Pete Kwiatkowski confirmed after practice.
In addition to 2018 commit Jacob Sirmon, Kyler Gordon attended practice as well. He’s one of the best DB recruits in the country and a top in state target for the Huskies.
The Huskies practice again tomorrow at 3:20 p.m. and will have offensive players and coaches available for interviews. Here’s the full schedule, and you can always check back here for all your coverage!
