Former UW basketball star and current Nathan Hale High School boy’s head basketball coach Brandon Roy was shot in the leg outside his grandmother’s home over the weekend in Los Angeles while shielding children.
King-5 News was the first to report the shooting. USA Today added the information that Roy was at his grandmother’s house and protected children from what was said to be a random shooting.
Roy, 32, was this year’s Naismith National High School Coach of the Year leading Nathan Hale to a state title and 29-0 record.
The Portland TrailBlazers, where Roy played most of his NBA career, issued a statement:
