Washington’s long relationship with men’s basketball head coach Lorenzo Romar came to an end today when athletic director Jen Cohen fired the former Husky basketball player as a result of increasingly poor performances on the court. Below, we’ve collected the reactions from Romar’s current and former players, as well as others in the Pacific Northwest basketball community.

Loved this coaching staff and couldn't wait to start something special next year...this hurts.

What could've been...

You were like a Father to me, You care about more than basketball and want you to know you mean a lot to me.

You're one of the best coaches I have ever played for! You are more than a coach to me! This really hurts me to see you go

You've helped me grow into a leader on and off the court. One of the best to ever do it @CoachRomar
— Isaiah Thomas (@Isaiah_Thomas) March 16, 2017
U set the bar coach. Can't replace the memories and championships we got. #teamromar @CoachRomar

Assuming Porter Jr. leaves, the two biggest recruits in UW basketball history will ultimately yield the Huskies two Pac-12 wins.
— Matt Calkins (@Matt_Calkins) March 15, 2017
People can take shots (and rightfully so) at Lorenzo Romar the coach, but I’ll say this: He’s one of finest people I've ever met doing this.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) March 15, 2017
Gonna be interesting to see where Michael Porter Jr., lands now. I’d take him No. 1 overall - in THIS draft. And he is in 2018 Class.
— Jeff Goodman (@GoodmanESPN) March 15, 2017
Whoever gets #UW job will have to make some important assistant hires. Alumni fiercely loyal to Romar and have big voice with local talent.
— Josh Gershon (@JoshGershon) March 15, 2017
Yep. Why not see what can be done w Porter? And the buyout. Wow. https://t.co/twOZD8XULV
— Kevin Calabro (@KevinCalabro) March 15, 2017
Expected to be a mass exodus at @UW_MBB. Three starters and three incoming recruits say they're thinking about transferring. Wow.
— Percy Allen (@percyallen) March 15, 2017
Lorenzo Romar is the best man I have ever worked with. Saddened. Wish him and his family only the best, forever. #UWHuskies https://t.co/qLxw36Mt52

UW is a great job but uphill battle at first. https://t.co/P6ap8riUc0
— Bryan Fischer (@BryanDFischer) March 15, 2017
Never forget before @CoachRomar came to Washington they were giving away tickets to the game just so we could have people come. I was there

Life comes at you fast. https://t.co/VKFoTOjPTr

Thank you @CoachRomar it was an honor to be your SID for 4 yrs. You, your staff & family were always so welcoming to my wife and I. Sad day.

From UW source: Early potential landing spot for Lorenzo Romar ... Los Angeles Clippers assistant.
— Percy Allen (@percyallen) March 15, 2017
It has been an absolute pleasure both as a member of the media and as a Seattle area HS basketball coach to work with coach Romar. #classact
— Dick Fain (@dickfain) March 15, 2017
Reiterating what others have said, I've never dealt with a more respectable person in my profession than Lorenzo Romar.
— Tim Booth (@ByTimBooth) March 15, 2017
Very doubtful that Michael Porter goes to Mizzou. Lesson learned from Fultz,Simmons
— Doug Gottlieb (@GottliebShow) March 15, 2017
About the only funny thing that could happen today is Mizzou hires Porter Sr as an assistant and somehow doesn't land Porter Jr.
— Seattle Sportsnet (@alexSSN) March 15, 2017
Spoke to a UW booster and that person wants @UW_MBB to hire Wichita State's Gregg Marshall. He makes $3.3M per. Romar was getting $1.7.
