Projecting The (Way Too Early) Class Of 2018

Here’s who the coaches are in on for 2018.

The ink is barely dry on the letters of intent sent in by the 2017 recruiting class, but Husky coaches are hard at work targeting some 2018 football players up and down the West Coast.

It sounds as if the Husky coaches will be taking roughly 20-22 in the 2018 class. Based on speculation, here is my best guess as to whom the Huskies will pick up for 2018:

QB — The Dawgs already have a commit in 4 star Jacob Sirmon from Bothell, WA. He is the headliner for this class and expect a lot of top skill players to sign just to play with him.

RB — It sounds like TJ Pledger is a guy the Husky staff desperately wants, along with every top program In the country. However, I am going with a kid like Tre Weed out of Sumner HS, WA. Tre is a 3 star athlete without a Husky offer currently, but when he camps with the Huskies, expect an offer shortly thereafter. Husky coaches will be looking for a Lavon Coleman-type back in the 2018 class so on top of Weed expect them to take 1 more back in 2018.

WR — Austin Osborne, a 4 star wideout out of Mission Viejo, CA should be a Dawg very soon. I also project Chase Williams, a 4 star wideout out of Eleanor Roosevelt HS, CA and Marques Spiker, a 4 star wideout out of Murrieta Valley HS, CA to commit to the Dawgs as of right now. Treshaun Harrison, a 3 star wideout out of Garfield HS, WA is the other option. The Huskies will take 2-3 wideouts in 2018.

TE — Devin Culp, a 4 star Wr/TE out of Gonzaga Prep HS, WA seems to like the Huskies a lot after his most recent offer. Right now the Dawgs are projected to take 1 TE. The other offer currently is for Jake Peters, a 3 star TE out of Santa Margarita HS, CA.

OL — Justin Dedich, a 4 star center out of Chaparral HS, CA seems to be leaning toward the Dawgs and a likely commit if bigger offers don't come in soon. Steven Jones, a 4 star tackle, also sounds like a Husky lean currently. He is teammates with Dedich. Husky coaches will take at least 2 offensive lineman in the 2018 class with a third a possibility depending on attrition.

DE — So far only two reported offers have gone out so it may be too early to project any commits for this position. I would expect 1 DE in the 2018 class and more offers to go out in the summer when Husky coaches see kids at their camps.

DT — Thomas Togiai, a 4 star defensive tackle out of Highland Senior HS, ID sounds as if he is a UW lean currently. Also, Husky coaches are making progress on Sam Vakalahi out of East HS, UT. He is a teammate of 2017 Husky commit Jordan Lolohei. Husky coaches will take 2 DT's for the 2018 class.

MLB — Jackson Sirmon, a 3 star middle linebacker out of Brentwood Academy, TN is currently committed to UW. Watch out for Ben Wilson out of Sumner HS, WA. If he gets an offer, expect him to commit as well. Two is probably the amount of inside backers for the 2018 class.

OLB — Right now the Huskies have only offered a couple of guys at this position. I would say UW has the best chance at Solomon Tuiliaupupu, a 4 star linebacker out of Mater Dei HS, CA. He has offers from most of the major programs so it will tough to convince him to join the Dawgs; however, he has also visited UW on an unofficial, so you have to give Chris Peterson a chance. The other name to consider is Elijah Winston, a 4 star linebacker out of Centrap Catholic HS, OR. If he gets a UW offer this summer I would expect him to choose between UW and Oregon, where his brother currently plays. Husky coaches will likely take two outside linebackers with one being a Buck.

DB — The major wildcard for the 2018 class is at DB where recruits will be eager to find out if Jimmy Lake stays a Husky after the 2017 season. Kyler Gordon, a 4 star corner out of Archbishop Murphy HS, WA seems the most likely to commit but he has many other schools coming after him. Josiah Bradley, a 4 star safety out of Saguaro HS, AZ also is another guy that I could see committing to UW — especially if Jimmy Lake stays for the 2018 season. Some other names to pay attention to are 3 star corner Maurice Gaines, Jr. out of Jesuit HS, CA who doesn't have a current Husky offer but will probably get one; and Jovan McConico, a 3 star corner out of Garfield HS, WA. I don't expect the Huskies to get Isaac Taylor-Stuart, a 4 star corner out of St Augustine HS, CA or Bredon Lenzy, a 4 star corner out of Tigard HS, OR. Both players look to be long shots at this time. Husky coaches will probably take 3 DB’s with at least one being a corner.

Husky coaches might take a kicker in the 2018 class but won’t offer one until they see them kick in the summer.

This list will surely change and names will pop up that I haven't mentioned. As always feel free to follow me on Twitter for more recruiting news and updates: @asieverkropp.
