Unfortunately for Washington alumni in the NFL, the rookies had a rough week. Budda Baker ended up on a highlight reel because of what was done to him and Kevin King was knocked out of the game with an injury.
Danny Shelton faced off (very indirectly) with fellow large man Austin Seferian-Jenkins and running mate Jermaine Kearse in the NFL’s premier game of the week: Jets in Cleveland to take on the Browns. Shelton was asked to drop into coverage on a snap and it got a chuckle out of those who decided to tune in. Kearse scored a touchdown and ASJ did as well while leading the game with six catches. Kasen Williams had a career-best four catches for 33 yards.
We were denied Shaq Thompson being tasked with stopping Dwayne Washington due to the running back’s nagging quad injury. Thompson was on the field for every defensive snap for the first time in his career. Panthers fans have been awaiting a breakout for the third-year linebacker and it seems that he is finally living up to expectations. He sacked Matt Stafford on a blitz off the edge.
Darrell Daniels continued his special teams contributions for the Colts and also had a catch for 13 yards. Cory Littleton had a similar impact for the Los Angeles Rams.
There is a play that will forever live in Nelson Agholor’s highlight reel that has Budda Baker as the victim. If you want to find it, it’s not going to be hard. Budda was matched up in man coverage against the speedy Agholor and was outrun, then had his ankles and knees turned to mush. Elijah Qualls continued to factor into the rotation at defensive tackle for the Eagles.
Marcus Peters had an outburst on the sidelines for the second consecutive game as his Chiefs took down DeShaun Watson and the Houston Texans. I was unable to watch the Sunday Night game so I can’t comment on his play or what caused his temper to flare.
As mentioned earlier, Kevin King was forced out of the Green Bay game with an injury. He suffered a concussion on the second defensive drive of the game and didn’t return. John Ross is still out with his knee injury.
The Saints, Falcons and Redskins were all on bye with their Dawgs getting some rest before finishing the grind of the season.
