Washington Huskies Football Ranked No. 8 in New AP Poll

Are the Huskies truly a top-10 team? America’s football writers certainly seem to think so.

The Huskies are ranked No. 8 in the new AP Poll that was released today, one spot behind division rival Stanford. Washington jumped from last week’s No. 12 preseason rating after easily handling Big Ten opponent Rutgers 48-13 in Saturday’s season opener. Their new ranking is the team’s highest since Rick Neuheisel’s squad that was ranked No. 8 during week nine of the 2001 season.

If Washington and Stanford both remain unbeaten, their Sept. 30 matchup will likely be the first game between top-10 opponent at Husky Stadium in almost two decades.

In addition, Washington was ranked No. 11 in this week’s USA Today coaches poll, up from their preseason ranking of No. 18.

What do you think of Washington’s position in the latest rankings?
