Chris Petersen kicked off his third season as Washington's head coach today by holding the team's first spring practice of 2016. Because the event is closed to the public, we rely on the team's dependable beat writers such as The News Tribune's Christian Caple, The Seattle Times' Percy Allen, Dawgman.com's Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund, and others to keep us in the loop.

John Ross III practiced fully today. Petersen said he's good to go, but may pull back from time to time, depending how things go.
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
Petersen on Ross: "We don’t have to win spring ball with him. We’ve got to have him ready to play in September."
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
Petersen: "I think he looks good. John Ross always looks good. With a little luck we’ll keep him healthy and do some good things."
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
Petersen: "We all know the explosive player that John is, but it’s not fair to him to expect him to be the answer to solve all our issues."
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
Petersen didn't love a question about the Huskies potentially competing for the Pac-12 North title this year ...
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
"If we’re talking about going to the Rose Bowl, that is so out of whack right now. It’s not even fair. It’s the wrong thinking."
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
"If they are thinking about that right there, there’s probably a good chance we’re not going there." Said focus needs to be "on Wednesday."
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
Asked later about women's hoops team, Petersen said: "That’s what we ought to be looking at, the women’s basketball team. Not Rose Bowls."
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
K.J. Carta-Samuels led the second-team offense inside the 20 before throwing three incompletions and coming up short on 4th down.
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
Jake Browning led the first-team offense inside the 20-yard line before Kevin King batted away a 4th-and-5 pass intended for Dante Pettis.
— Christian Caple (@ChristianCaple) March 28, 2016
Budda Baker intercepted Browning during a 1-on-1 drill. Browning made a nice deep throw to Ross over Sidney Jones in a 1-on-1 drill.
