The best season for the Washington Huskies in nearly two decades included a 12-1 record, a Pac-12 title, and now includes a berth in the College Football Playoffs.
The Huskies will play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta on New Year’s Eve.
"We think we have a heck of a team and we think we belong in there," coach Chris Petersen said after Friday’s win over Colorado. "I think they'll do what they should do, which is the right thing. ... These guys have done everything they're supposed to do."
The only loss for the Huskies on the season came to the 9-3 Trojans, which finished the season with eight consecutive wins.
In the AP Top 25 Poll released on Sunday morning, Washington ranked No. 4, behind Alabama, Ohio State, and Clemson, and ahead of Big Ten champion Penn State, which beat Wisconsin on Saturday evening following a furious comeback. The Coaches Poll also featured the same top four.
And the College Football Playoff committee agreed, to the delight of Washington fans.
