After a disappointing effort on Saturday night, the Huskies get a chance to make up for their mistakes and immediately avenge the loss in a rematch with TCU tonight. When you just saw your team get destroyed in an arena filled to the brim with at least 100 people it can be hard to see signs of hope. They say insanity is doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result but here are three reasons why things could be different this time around (for the better):
1. Markelle Fultz won't foul out early in the 2nd half. Fultz was an absolute wrecking ball in the last game, seemingly on his way to willing UW to victory before getting called for a 4th foul diving for a loose ball in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half. UW ultimately rallied to get within 2 but couldn't keep up the momentum with him out of the game for 6+ minutes. Getting 34 minutes from Fultz will make a difference.
2. The Huskies will make adjustments in the pick and roll on D. The TCU point guards absolutely abused the Washington big men in the pick and roll, seemingly getting to the rim at will. The UW bigs, and particularly Malik Dime, need to cut off Jaylen Fisher's drive to the hoop and trust they can recover to find their original matchup.
3. UW will shoot better from deep. TCU went to a 2-3 zone for periods of the game knowing that Washington was ice cold from beyond the arc. They shot 11% worse than their season average coming into the game which translates to 2-3 extra misses or 6-9 points.
If improvements are made in all 3 areas then the Dawgs have a chance. A split here is absolutely essential to salvaging the non-conference schedule.
