The Washington Huskies defeated the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks 92-58 on Sunday night at Alaska Airlines Arena. Markelle Fultz messed around and almost got a triple double but was pulled late in the second half as the game was beyond the reach of NAU.
NAU is not a good team. Last season they won just 5 games and are off to a 1-4 (after tonight) start.
Still, the Huskies showed signs of improvement as they dominated the boards, forced turnovers and played overall better defense limiting NAU to 30% shooting from the floor. The Lumberjacks did hit some threes the Huskies need to improve on closing out the space, but it was nice performance for a young team.
Fultz continues to be an efficient offensive player as he made 6-9 from the field and 2-4 from 3 point range. He looked to get others involved in the game moving the ball fluidly. He could have had double digits in assists except that some of his teammates could not convert. Noah Dickerson had a nice game with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Matisse Thybulle had 15 points, Carlos Johnson chipped in 11 points and David Crisp had 10.
The Huskies went on a 24-0 run in the second half and doubled up the Lumberjacks at one point, 72-36. The Huskies led by as much as 38 and everyone on the bench had an opportunity to play.
The Lumberjacks had a rough night from the floor. They were led by the 11 points of Felix Rivera-Vaga.
The Huskies (2-1) play Long Beach State at Alaska Airlines Arena on Tuesday night.
