Welcome to the Markelle Fultz era.
Husky fans have been waiting to see what the addition of the top recruit in the nation last cycle can do to a young lineup that features up and comers like Sam Timmins, Noah Dickerson, David Crisp and Matisse Thybulle. We will finally get that chance.
The hope is that the 6’4” point guard will add a scoring and defensive presence at the point in a mold very similar to what Brandon Roy was able to add to the program a decade ago. Many pundits have tagged UW as a team to watch given that Fultz might just be the missing piece that adds the offensive potential to a team that has added great size and some shooting capabilities over the past year.
Their opening opponent is the Yale Bulldogs. Coach James Jones is coming off of one of the best seasons in Yale’s history after they won 23 games and made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1962. Unfortunately, three of the starting five from that team have moved on while a fourth, their star guard Makai Mason is out for an extended period as he recovers from a broken foot. In his place, other players will have to step up. Freshman forward Jordan Brunner, forward Blake Reynolds and senior guard Anthony Dallier, the only returning sarter, are the names to watch
