In a move that seems to have caught most recruiting folks by surprise, the Huskies appear to have landed a punter for the 2016 class today:
Soderberg is a local product from Capital H.S. in Olympia, and was inspired to become a kicker from watching Josh Brown kick for the Seahawks in the 2006 Super Bowl. The kicking specialist recruiting site Kohl's lists him as their 16th ranked punter for the 2016 class.
Current punter Korey Durkee is a senior, so it would appear that the staff likes Soderberg as a potential replacement rather than counting on Tristan Vizcaino (or a walk-on) to claim the job, and will mean the team has three scholarship kickers on the 2016 roster. Soderberg becomes the 10th known verbal commitment for the 2016 class, and with the Huskies expected to take roughly 17 players in that class, space is quickly becoming a premium.
