PEERLESS.

I'm not sure that there is another word that adequately describe the dominance demonstrated by UW's Men's and Women's Crew teams after a dominating day at the Pac 12 Championships at Lake Natoma near Sacramento.  The Huskies claimed first place in 8 events for the day including:

  • Men's Varsity 8
  • Men's Varsity 4
  • Women's Varsity 4
  • Men's Second 8
  • Women's Second 8
  • Men's Third 8
  • Women's Third 8
  • Men's Freshman 8

It wasn't supposed to be this easy for the Huskies, particularly given the threat posed by long time rival California on what could be considered their home water. The undefeated Cal Men's Varsity 8 entered the regatta ranked #1 nationally as of the latest poll released by the US Rowing Collegiate Poll last Wednesday. In that poll, the Bears garnered all 15 first place votes with Washington sitting behind them at #2.   Also ranked were the crews from Stanford and Oregon State.

The end to end dominance by UW in the regatta was a surprise to just about anybody who has been following the sport closely given the overall state of competition in the conference.  Still, it is another sign of just how significant the gap is between UW and everybody else in the overall state of their crew program.

Here are some blow-by-blow tweets courtesy of UW to help give you a flavor of how the day went.
