It's been a rough stretch of late for Lorenzo Romar and the Washington men's basketball program, but they got some good news today as Matthew Atewe - a muscular 6'10" post from Brampton, Ontario, Canada by way of Notre Dame Prep in Massachusetts - announced his intention to transfer from Auburn to join the Huskies:
Proud to announce that I will attend the University of Washington for the remainder of my college career #Huskies #RealRecognizeReal

Atewe took a visit this weekend to Seattle and loved what he saw but wanted the chance to talk with his family before making his announcement today. He's expected to petition for immediate eligibility with the Huskies after sitting out this past season due to aggravating a prior lower leg fracture. He's expected to make a full recovery.
Atewe is a rugged, physical presence that will give the Huskies another strong post player to pair up with Malik Dime and allow Marquise Chriss to play more of a PF role. Should he be declared eligible for the 2015/16 season, his arrival could allow Romar the luxury of redshirting Devenir Duruisseau.
